Sunday’s Football Bet of the Day sees me head to the French Ligue 1 and there’s one fixture in particular that has caught my eye for goals.

Two of the European hopefuls in Ligue 1 this season meet at the Stade Pierre-Mauroy on late Sunday afternoon as Lille host Rennes in a match that promises goals.
Lille saw their three-match winning run come to an end last time out as they lost 1-0 away at Lyon in a match they somehow failed to score in. Nevertheless, Paulo Fonseca’s men have won each of their last three on home soil, including a dramatic 4-3 success over Monaco in their previous home fixture. That defeat in Lyon was the first time Lille had failed to score in Ligue 1 this season, with Les Dogues notching 25 goals in their previous 12 fixtures. Lille have registered just two clean sheets in the league this season, conceding 22 times.
Rennes comfortably dispatched Montpellier 3-0 in their last Ligue 1 outing, extending their unbeaten run to nine matches in the French top flight. It’s also five successive wins for Bruno Génésio’s men, which sees them in third position – just three points behind second-placed Lens. Les Rouge et Noir have not failed to find the back of the net since the opening day of the season, scoring 28 goals across their previous 12 league tussles. The Brittany club have only managed three clean sheets in Ligue 1 this season, with neither of those coming on the road.
Bet of the Day
Lille will look to return to winning ways on Sunday afternoon but face a tough test against a Rennes side that is not only on a nine-match unbeaten run in Ligue 1 but who are on a five-match winning run. Goals are generally a feature of both side’s fixtures this season, and we should see more as the pair go head-to-head at the Stade Pierre-Mauroy.
Collectively, Over 2.5 Goals has landed in 19/26 of the pair’s Ligue 1 fixtures this season and given each team’s records at both ends of the pitch, I’m expecting to see at least three goals with both sides contributing in what should be an entertaining encounter in Northern France tomorrow afternoon.
