Despite being a goal down from the first leg Chelsea are overwhelming favourites to qualify for the EFL Cup final when Middlesbrough come calling at Stamford Bridge tonight.
Hayden Hackney’s tidy finish was enough to give Boro the first leg advantage two weeks ago and the bookies make them 9/4 chances to book their place at Wembley with Chelsea at 1/3 to progress.
Odds are even shorter, at 2/9, on a win inside the 90 minutes for Chelsea. Boro are 10/1.
Things could be a little nervy for the Blues who have failed to win over half of their home league matches this season and Michael Carrick will no doubt set his side out to frustrate the hosts and their fans for as long as possible.
Mauricio Pochettino also has a whole host of absentees to contend with; Fofana, James, Cucurella, Lavia, Nkunku, Sanchez, Ugochukwu and Jackson are all unavailable.
The time of the first goal line is set at 23:00 minutes. Chelsea have scored just two goals inside that mark in their last 10 outings. Across the all 27 games this season they’ve scored inside the first 23 minutes in six so they’re relatively slow starters and the 5/6 on no goal before then appeals.
Under 2.5 Goals also looks a bit overpriced at 17/10. Chelsea need only win 2-0 to progress and it’s sure to be a close encounter.
Bolton’s run of wins was ended by Leyton Orient on Saturday but they should get back on track at home to an improving Cheltenham who are still in the relegation zone on League 1.
We tipped against troubled Reading at the weekend and it could pay to do so again. High flying Derby (17/20) are the visitors and they can take add to the turmoil by taking all three points which would send them top of the table.
Wigan have won an impressive eight of 13 games at home (only Bolton and Blackpool have won more) and although they’re only one point better off than tonight’s opponents, Wycombe, add in their points deduction and it would be nine.
The bookies have both sides at 17/10 to win which means there could be a bit value around Shaun Maloney’s men who are on a good run of four without defeat (W2 D2) in the league.
