IT’S all about a Champions League spot in tonight’s North London Derby as Tottenham and Arsenal battle it out to finish fourth in the Premier League.
This fixture was controversially postponed back in January when the Gunners claimed they didn’t have enough players, which led to Spurs calling in to question a bending of the rules surrounding player availability during the pandemic.
As it is, the re-arranged date gives Arsenal the chance to guarantee they’ll finish above Spurs with a win and they’ll want to get the job done this evening considering they’ve still to travel to Newcastle and to host relegation-threatened Everton. But if the home side can win they’d move to within two points of their rivals and put some pressure on their remaining fixtures.
Tottenham will be slightly disappointed not to have taken more than a point from title-chasing Liverpool at the weekend. Antonio Conte appears to have added some much-needed consistency to this side and that draw made it just one defeat in their last eight (W5 D2 L1).
Arsenal go into the game in good spirits too, following four good wins in row over Man Utd, Chelsea, West Ham and Leeds so it should be a cracker at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium, a ground that the Gunners have yet to win at. In fact they’ve a pretty poor record away from home in this Premier League fixture where they’ve won just once in the last 13 (at White Hart Lane, Wembley and Spurs’ new home) and Spurs are favourites to win this evening at 23/20, while the visitors can be backed at 23/10.
Harry Kane boasts an impressive 11 goals in the derby, the highest tally in the Premier League era. He’s scored in six of the last seven home derbies and he’s a 3/1 shot to open the scoring or 5/6 to net anytime.
