Michael Carrick appears to have stopped the rot for Manchester United with a win at Villarreal and a creditable draw at Stamford Bridge and he’ll still be in charge tonight at Old Trafford while Ralf Rangnick awaits his work permit.
Carrick showed his managerial mettle by relegating Cristiano Ronaldo to the bench for Sunday’s draw with Chelsea. The Portuguese hitman is one goal away from a milestone 800th and he’s 11/10 (SBK) to hit the landmark tonight. If he does so there’s a decent chance he’ll get his six-pack out in celebration and that could lead to him picking up a card. The BetBuilder of a goal and a card pays 17/2 at Bet365.
Mikel Arteta has survived a horrendous start to the season and has gradually guided Arsenal up to fifth in the table with the chance to move in to the top four with a win but they often get stage-fright when playing on the bigger stages but they’re unbeaten in thier last five against United (W2 D3).
It’s always difficult to back against the Red Devils at home but the stats don’t lie; they’ve failed to keep a clean sheet in their past 14 home fixtures in all competitions, they’ve won just once in eight Premier League matches (D2, L5), they could lose seven home fixtures in a calendar year for the first time since 1986… and so on. The Gunners are 13/5 to take all three points and there’ll be plenty getting on side wit Arteta’s side.
A late penalty secured the three points for Rangers at Easter Road last night which puts the pressure on to Celtic to close the gap at the top of table once more. The Hoops welcome third-place Hearts to the east end of Glasgow for what should be a cracking match.
Having led the table earlier in the season the Jambos have slipped to third and find themselves nine off the pace but could leapfrog Celtic with a win.
However Ange Postecoglou’s side are on a run of eight matches unbeaten in the Premiership and merit the 4/11 price on them to win here. The Bhoys kept up their prolific corner count at the weekend, racking up 15 against Aberdeen, taking their average to 9.86 per home match. They’re even money to hit over seven (available on a Bet365 BetBuilder) and that can’t be refused.
