Thursday’s Football Bet of the Day see’s me focus on two sides at the top ends of their respective leagues. I’m backing both sides at home to win to give us a nice odds against double.
Ludogorets vs Arda

Champions Ludogorets will look to stretch their lead at the top of the league as they welcome Arda to the Huvepharma Arena. The hosts are currently seven points clear at the top despite playing three fewer matches than two of the sides below them. Arda are currently 9th, only three points above the relegation playoff area.
Ludogorets bounced back from a shock 2-0 defeat to CSKA Sofia 1948 by defeating title rivals CSKA Sofia 2-0 at home last time out, thanks to two goals. The champions have won 12 of their 14 league games so far this season, including seven of their last eight. Ludogorets are the leagues top scorers this campaign despite playing fewer matches than all bar one of the sides, scoring 35 goals in 14 matches. They’ve also conceded the fewest goals this term, letting in just nine and keeping a clean sheet in half of their league matches to date.
Arda failed to do the league double over 8th placed Levski Sofia last time out, as they drew 0-0 at home. That win in the reverse fixture is their only win against a side above them in the league, with their other three wins coming against sides in the bottom five places. Arda have struggled against the top sides in the league, losing all three to the sides directly below Ludogorets, conceding seven times and scoring just the twice.
Casa Pia vs Varzim

Casa Pia host Varzim at the Estádio Pina Manique knowing a win will see them go top. The hosts currently lie in 3rd, but are only two points off league leaders Benfica II. The visitors are currently in the relegation zone, four points from automatic safety.
Casa Lia made it back to back wins in the league as they defeated lowly Farense 1-0 away from home. After losing two of their opening three matches in the league, Casa Pia have went on nine game unbeaten run, winning six. Casa Pia still have a 100% home record from their opening five matches, scoring 13 times and conceding just twice. Six of Casa Pia’s seven league victories have saw fewer than five goals being scored, with five of them won to nil.
Varzim suffered yet another defeat last time out, as they were defeated 0-2 at home to FC Penafiel. That’s now five defeats from their last six matches in the league, conceding on 11 occasions and scoring just three times. Varzim are yet to collect a point against any of the top 8 so far this term, losing all six by an aggregate score of 12-2. All seven of Varzim’s defeats in the league have saw fewer than four goals, with them failing to score in five of them.
Bet of the Day
Ludogorets have been in great form so far this season and will expect to collect another three points at home to mid table Arda. The reigning champions have so far won 12/14 in the league, scoring 35 goals and conceding just nine. I expect them to be good for an Arda side who struggle when coming up against the leagues top sides. Varzim look like perfect opponents for Casa Pia as they bid to go top of the Portuguese second tier. Varzim have collected just seven points from their opening 12 matches, losing all six matches against sides in the top 8. Casa Pia on the other hand are on a nine game unbeaten run in the league and have won all five of their matches at home. Given that six of their seven league wins and all seven of Varzim’s defeats have seen fewer than five goals, I’m happy to add under 4.5 match goals along with a Casa Pia victory.
