International football can be dificult to bet on at the best of times but the upcoming UEFA Nations League fixtures look a minefield for punters.
Countries are grouped together based on their ability so there’s fewer mismatches, great for armchair fans, not so great if you’re trying to beat the bookies.
That said, whipping boys San Marino and Gibraltar are still huge prices at 33/1 and 40/1 away to Estonia and Georgia respectively. Neither will win but the steadily improving Gib team deserve a bit more respect. They’ve drawn blank in five of their last six, including two 0-0 draws, but they’ve netted previously against the Georgians as well as against Latvia, Norway, Montenegro and Switzerland in the last few years so an away goal at 12/5 could be worth a punt.
Norway hit nine last time out against Armenia and there could be goals this evening when they visit Serbia. Erling Haaland is ably assisted by the likes of Sørloth, Elyounoussi, King and Thorvstedt who have all chipped in with goals in recent matches.
The Serbians too have goals in their ranks including Fulham’s on-song Aleksander Mitrovic. They’ve scored 11 in their last three at home, albeit against much weaker opposition but 11/10 looks worth taking on in the Over 2.5 goals market.
A 0-0 draw with Italy in Belfast was the biggest positive Northern Ireland could take from a disappointing World Cup qualifying campaign which saw them finish a distant third in Group C.
Goal scoring was their biggest problem, finishing the group with just six goals in eight games. Tonight’s opponents Greece weren’t much more prolific, bagging eight in eight.
No surprise then to see Under 2.5 goals at just 4/9. The line for the time of the first goal is 37:00 and you can back no goal before then at 5/6. Alternatively look to the Asian Line where it’s 1.925 at 0.5,1.0 which means you win if there’s no goal and half your stake back if there’s a single goal.
