Time could be running out for Ian Baraclough as Northern Ireland manager and anything other than a win over Cyprus this afternoon could be the last straw.
Much like Republic of Ireland’s manager Stephen Kenny, Baraclough has presided over a dismal period of results, enjoying a win percentage of just 20% and only picking up victories over low-ranked teams like Luxembourg, Lithuania, Estonia and Malta.
His side struggled to a 0-0 draw in Larnaca last week but they’ll surely get the better of the Cypriots in front of the Windsor Park crowd today. The visitors have failed to score in 18 of their last 25 matches so it could take just the one goal to bag all three points.
At 4/7 to win it might be better to take Northern Ireland to win to nil at 11/8.
Results have been really difficult to predict in this international break and it could be another tricky day for punters.
Portugal to beat Switzerland at even money looks an obvious pick, however, considering the Swiss have lost all three Group A2 matches so far including a 4-0 reverse to the Portuguese, but things could be a bit closer on Swiss soil.
In the same group, Spain will be expected to see off the Czech Republic without too much difficulty in Malaga. They’re 2/7 to take all three points but 5/6 to be winning at half-time and full-time.
Norway got the better of neighbours Sweden when the sides met last week, thanks to two Erling Haaland goals. They meet again in Oslo this evening and the home side will be popular with punters at 21/20. Goals could be the way to go here though despite the Norwegians behind held to a 0-0 draw by Slovenia last time out.
Norway and Haaland are unlikely to go two games without a goal and the Swedes will be out to salvage some pride after the Scandanavian derby defeat.
