Tottenham thrashed Manchester United 6-1 in the last round of fixtures and will seek to maintain their momentum when they host London rivals West Ham on Sunday.
Spurs’ win was stunning, but the biggest shock from the last batch of games was Aston Villa’s 7-2 mauling of champions Liverpool and they are also in action as they face a tricky trip to Leicester.
Spurs Can Crush Hammers
Spurs had managed just four points from their first three games prior to that win at Old Trafford but that result should prove the spark they needed to really ignite their season. Jose Mourinho’s men also hit seven in the Europa League against Maccabi Haifa in the build-up to the mauling of United and they should be able to overcome the Hammers on Sunday.
The visitors aren’t to be underestimated though, as they go into this fixture on the back of consecutive league wins over Wolves and Leicester. West Ham managed clean sheets in both of those victories but Tottenham haven’t drawn a blank since the opening round of games and should be able to find a way through.
Tottenham have dominated recent meetings between the two sides and won both Premier League games against the Hammers last year. Indeed, the North London outfit have won four of the last five clashes between the two sides across all competitions.
A Spurs win with both teams to score stands out in this clash at 17/10 and Son Heung-min appeals as any anytime goalscorer at 7/5, with the South Korean on offer at 4/1 to open the scoring.
Villa’s Perfect Start Under Threat
Villa survived by the skin of their teeth last season as they finished just one point clear of the drop zone but the early indications suggest they’re set for a more comfortable campaign this time around.
Dean Smith’s side are the last top-flight team with a 100 per cent record after three wins in as many league games but they will face a real test at Leicester on Sunday evening.
The Foxes also have nine points on the board, albeit having played a game more, and if either side does manage to win this one they will move up to second spot.
Leicester did the league double over their Midlands rivals last term, scoring eight goals and conceding just once in the process, but Villa did come through their EFL Cup semi-final double-header.
The Foxes will be looking for a response after their surprise defeat to West Ham, which ended their own 100 per cent start to the campaign, and having beaten Manchester City this term they will feel like they can once again challenge for a top four spot.
On paper, Leicester have the stronger team but Villa are the form side and this could be a closely contested clash.
A draw could well be on the cards in this match-up and that pays out at 13/5. The 10/1 on offer for a 2-2 result is another option given these two haven’t struggled for goals in the main this term.
