THE only online bookie that lists SPFL and first-scorer prices for every game are McBookie.
McBookie’s Damian Walker is back with his first-scorer tips and he’s also challenging punters to pick their own.
Every week one person with a correct prediction will be chosen at random to win a £10 bet – and if you backed your tip with McBookie with at least a fiver they’ll double the prize to £20.
You can comment with your pick here and give any reasoning but to enter the contest you have to email mrfixit@dailyrecord.co.uk.
Quote player’s club and first-scorer price with McBookie – Scottish games only – for a chance to win. Last week’s winner was Ian McDermid with Aberdeen’s Sam Cosgrove at 3-1. Email to claim your prize.
Here is Damian with this weekend’s selections. He says: “Two losers and a non-starter to kick off the new league season last weekend so I will be hoping for better things this Saturday make no mistake.
“And it could have been so much different as I flirted with tipping Albion Rovers at a huge price away to title fancies Stenhousemuir in League Two last weekend only to bottle it.
“Shocking aftertiming but I had been hearing good reports from early season and that was on the back of an escapology act Houdini would have been proud of to avoid relegation last season.
“For those who can’t remember The Wee Rovers looked dead and buried having won just one of their first 29 matches in all competitions in the last campaign only to win six of their last 13 league games to leapfrog Berwick Rangers.
“And things have been pretty rosy in the League Cup this season where they grabbed a bonus point away to St Mirren from the Premiership and beat Edinburgh City and East Kilbride.
“Then came last weekend’s 3-2 away win at Stenhousemuir which confirmed the promise of those League Cup results. And I am really not too worried about their midweek 4-1 loss at home to Hearts Colts.
“The Wee Rovers rested six players who started on Saturday and Hearts put out as strong an Under-21 side as you are likely to see that included players like Harry Cochrane.
“Now comes the tricky bit. On Saturday Albion Rovers are at home to Cove Rangers who have been hammered into even-money League Two title favourites and began their league campaign with a 5-0 thrashing of second favourites Edinburgh City.
“While Cove are clearly a good side I feel it is too early to be chalking them up 4-7 favourites to win just their second League Two game and first away from home.
“As a result the 15-4 about the home side looks too big. I could well be wrong and Cove could be the real deal but they are priced up as if they already are.
“And as well as taking a chance on Albion Rovers I’ll on 19-year-old Euan East, who joined in the summer from Queen’s Park, to score first after goals in his last two starts.
“East was not in the starting line-up for their midweek Challenge Cup game but I expect him to start in this league game. He is 10-1 with McBookie to grab the opener.
“Moving up into the Premiership and I thought Motherwell might be a bit of value to grab the opening goal against a weary Celtic.
“As I wrote last weekend I think Well will do really well this season and grab a top-six finish and create a few shocks along the way and Saturday could be the first of them.
“Well have strengthened their squad since last season and won all four League Cup games, scoring 13 without conceding and also kept a clean sheet in their 0-0 draw at Livingston in the Premiership last weekend.
“I like the fact Celtic had a midweek trip to Romania for their Champions League qualifier first leg against CFR Cluj and a fresher Motherwell could catch them out early.
“Motherwell striker James Scott has scored three times already this season in just three starts and is 12-1 with McBookie to score first.
“Finally I thought the 11-2 about Hibs winning at Rangers on Sunday was a massive price.
“The Gers scraped past Kilmarnock with a last-minute winner and like Celtic have a midweek trip to Europe to get over. Hibs’ Florian Kamberi is 9-1 with McBookie to be the first scorer.
