He says: “Mark McGuigan did this column favour with a first goal on the final day of the league programme last weekend but having escaped automatic relegation it looks as if his Stenhousemuir side might go down anyway through the play-offs.
“Stenny did just enough last weekend but in the play-offs crashed 2-0 away to Annan Athletic who finished the second half of the season in devastating form.
“The Galabankies won 12 of their last 16 games and losing just twice, in a run that took from them from near the bottom of League Two all the way up to fourth place and 19 points clear of fifth-placed Stirling Albion.
“Annan kept up that great form in midweek against Stenny and I think they will have too much again in the second leg yet are a massive 16-5 to win the game.
“Aidan Smith has done this column a good turn or two this season and has scored 14 goals. Smith got two doubles in a row last month and might be too big at 6-1 with McBookie to score the first goal on Saturday.
“In the Championship play-offs Queen of the South were chalked up at 10-11 to confirm their status in the division by winning the two ties needed to stay up.
“But their shocking league form has continued into the play-offs and they lost 2-1 away to Montrose who finished a distant fourth in League One and had a minus one goal difference following their final league game.
“Bookmakers have priced the second leg up expecting a much-improved performance from the Doonhamers but the nervy home atmosphere and doubts over whether Stephen Dobbie will be fit to play make them a side to oppose. Forty-goal Championship Player of the Year Dobbie missed out in midweek but latest news suggests he’ll make the starting line-up.
“Montrose look far too big at 9-2 and striker Ross Campbell, who scored both goals in the home leg is too big at 7-1 with McBookie to grab the opening goal of the game.
“Finally, I am just favouring Forfar Athletic at the prices in their second leg with Raith Rovers. The Loons finished three points above their rivals in the league and were the more consistent side in the final months of the season.
“Forfar striker John Baird has had a great season dropping down a division with 21 goals to his name, including three in his last four. Baird is 7-2 with McBookie to get the first goal of the game on Saturday
