THE Premiership splits in two this weekend and most of the thrills heading down the home straight should come in the bottom half.
Rangers have already secured the title and Hibs look set to seal third place so there’s not too much to get excited about in the top six.
But it’s a different story at the bottom with just two points separating Hamilton, Kimarnock and Ross County as they fight against the drop.
Hamilton v Dundee Utd
Accies have made a habit of defying the odds to stay up but if Brian Rice keeps them in the top flight this season it would
arguably be their greatest escape.
His squad has been decimated by injuries at the worst time possible and they will need to dig deep to avoid defeat at home to Dundee United today.
The Tannadice side just missed out on the top six and should beat Rice’s ravaged team if they haven’t downed tools for the season.
United are 6/5 for a win at McBookie and that looks great value, even though Hamilton have bust a few of my coupons already this season.
Due to the vagaries of the league split, this is the third time United have visited Accies this term with two previous games ending in draws. But Micky Mellon’s men won 2-1 at Tannadice, with Nicky Clark netting a double that day.
The striker also grabbed the winner in the Cup last weekend against Partick and looks overpriced at 3/1 with Paddy Power for a goal here.
Kilmarnock v Ross County
The game of the weekend is arguably at Rugby Park as Killie and County face off in a relegation six-pointer.
The Ayrshire side seem to have finally picked up some form under Tommy Wright, winning their last two games after 10 matches without a victory.
That has mainly been down to the arrival of Kyle Lafferty as the former Hearts and Rangers striker has netted six times in his last three club games.
I thought nearly all the bookies would have the Northern Ireland hitman at close to evens for a goal today but he’s 21/10 at Unibet which looks terrific value.
It’s a really tough game to call but both teams to score is always a good shout with County as they are quite open under John Hughes. That bet pays evens here with McBookie.
Motherwell v St Mirren
The other game in the bottom six is pretty much a dead rubber with St Mirren just missing out on the top six and Motherwell seven points clear of danger.
It’s tempting to back Well as they will be out to effectively secure safety with another win and they are 13/8 with McBookie.
But instead I’m going to use this game as part of an under 2.5 goals double along with Aberdeen’s trip to St Johnstone.
St Johnstone v Aberdeen
The Dons just scraped past minnows Dumbarton in the Cup last weekend and face a Saints team who are strong at the back.
The double pays 133/100 at McBookie.
Celtic v Livingston
Celtic have found Livingston a tough nut to crack this season, drawing twice and edging a 3-2 win at Parkhead.
They host the Lions again but I fancy them for a few goals today and over 2.5 Hoops strikes pays 2/1 with Betfred.
Hibs head to Ibrox tomorrow and I’m going for under 2.5 goals (13/10, McBookie) as it ended just 1-0 to Rangers on their last visit.
Scottish Lower Leagues
Dundee are hitting their stride as the Championship play-off race hots up and are just 4/7 (McBookie) to beat Morton today for a fourth successive league win.
There’s not much value in that so I’m going for goals instead with over 2.5 strikes a decent 17/20 at McBookie and Jason Cummings 13/10 at Paddy Power to net. Caley Thistle are another team in form and they head to Queen of the South in a game that also promises plenty of goals.
Over 2.5 goals is 10/11 at McBookie for this one and backing Scott Allan at 6/1 for a goal (Paddy Power) is a great long-odds option as he’s too good for this level.
League One has proved hard to predict since the lower-league restart so I’m steering clear and going for League Two instead.
Queen’s Park have been bankers for most punters all season and a win to nil at Stenny pays a decent 6/4 at McBookie.
