Happy New Year and best wishes for 2023 to everyone!
The year kicks-off with a busy day on the football front so spare a thought for those poor footballers that were tucked up in bed for the bells!
In the Premier League we’ve got Spurs v Villa and Forest v Chelsea live on TV at 2pm and 4.30 respectively.
Trying to predict what you’ll get from Spurs has never been easy and they were no different in 2022 but they can start the new year with a win in a fixture that they’ve enjoyed a lot of success. They’ve won won 12 of their last 14 league meetings with Aston Villa and have fared pretty will in North London so far this season, winning six of eight at home. But they’ve only won two of their last six league games and need to be picking up three points in games like today’s if they’re designs on a top four finish.
One man who’s consistency isn’t in question is Harry Kane. The England captain has notched 13 league goals this season and is on track for his best goalscoring season since 2017-18. The striker is bidding to become the first player to score in eight consecutive home matches in the Premier League since Romelu Lukaku in 2017. He’s 20/21 to equal that record today.
In Unai Emery Aston Villa have an excellent coach but it might take a transfer window or two for the team on the pitch to match but Spurs look to short to back at 13/20 so an interest in Kane finding the net looks a good option.
Chelsea too look too look way too inconsistent to be backing at 13/20 to win at Forest. So let’s dip in to the Championship for a Super Single.
Sunderland secured a good win at struggling Wigan on Thursday and can take advantage of Blackpool’s current poor form today. The Black Cats are just one defeat in their last six and making impressive progress under Tony Mowbray.
Blackpool on the other hand are winless in eight (D3 L5) and under-pressure head coach Michael Appleton has come in for criticism for not showing appreciation to the fans after matches. It looks like things will only end one way there. A win for Sunderland at 29/20 could make things even worse for the Seasiders.
