A new week begins and there’s a jumps card at Musselburgh to take in on Monday afternoon.
They go racing at the Edinburgh venue from 12.15pm-3.15pm, with seven contests lined-up and our tipster has a race-by-race analysis of the Scottish action.
You can watch it all unfold via live streaming when logged into MansionBet alongside every race from the UK and Ireland, every day.
12.15 – British Stallion Studs EBF Blackford Hill ‘National Hunt’ Novices’ Hurdle (2m4f)
With the late defection of Hereford winner A Distant Place, this now looks a guilt-edged opportunity for Olly Murphy’s THUNDER ROCK to collect.
He improved on second hurdles start to win at Wetherby three weeks ago and his penalty shouldn’t be enough to prevent the follow up in the McNeill family silks.
Selection: Thunder Rock @ 3/10
12.45 – Join Racing TV Now Introductory Juvenile Hurdle (1m7½f)
Another short price favourite here in the form Skycutter for Phil Kirby. His recent score at Wetherby is the standard-setter for this event and it won’t be a shock if he collects again.
COLLINGHAM is a worthy rival, however, for Donald McCain and Brian Hughes. The ex-French Flat performer was a cosy scorer over this C&D last month on stable bow and could improve enough here to be a big player again.
Selection: Collingham @ 10/3
1.15 – Visit racingtv.com Handicap Hurdle (1m7½f)
Not the easiest race to assess with My Macho Man and Les’s Legacy well out of the handicap, the obvious one is FIRST IMPRESSION given he justified short-price favouritism at Wetherby last month in good style, quickening clear to win well and seemingly with something up his sleeve.
He can defy the 7lb rise that was handed out for that score.
Selection: First Impression @ 11/10
1.45 – Scottish Racing Academy Christmas Jumper Novices’ Handicap Chase (2m6f)
He’s a latecomer to chasing, but if PERMISSION GRANTED is able to transfer his recent good hurdles form to this discipline then Rose Dobbin’s nine-year-old stands a fine chance of getting on the scoresheet.
He won his penultimate hurdles start at Ayr and has since finished second at Newcastle from this mark and he looks the value shout.
Selection: Permission Granted @ 11/2
2.15 – Watch On Racing TV Handicap Hurdle (3m)
ONE NIGHT IN MILAN was in decent form on the level this autumn, including a win at Ayr in October, and he made a satisfactory return to hurdling when fourth behind Earlofthecotswolds at Wetherby last month.
He was outpaced in that contest before staying on late, and this longer trip could be the way to go for him to make inroads.
Selection: One Night In Milan @ 4/1
2.45 – Happy 80th Birthday John Balloch Handicap Chase (3m)
The lightly-raced UPANDATIT made a good start to his chasing career when taking third spot at Ayr (2m4½f, good to soft) last month and is entitled to improve on that initial showing now.
Sean Quinlan’s mount remains on the same mark for this test and the extended trip could be a positive for him too.
Selection: Upandatit @ 6/4
3.15 – Get Daily Tips At racingtv.com Conditional Jockeys’ Handicap Hurdle (2m4f)
Jim Goldie’s mare SARVI has held her form well since scoring over 2m at Perth on soft ground in July. She couldn’t get a win on the Flat but two of her three recent hurdles starts have yielded silver medals at this venue and at Ayr.
She’s creeping up in the ratings as a result but sneaks in her off bottom-weight and should offer some each-way value upping distance.
Selection: Sarvi @ 9/1
