WHAT do you get when you cross a Tory MP with Willie Collum? Answer: A losing line.
In the week Boris Johnson somehow became PM it was one of his own who downed my Top Treble.
Moray MP Douglas Ross, who once skipped an important Commons vote to run the line in a Champions League game at Barcelona, was on duty as local team Elgin entertained Hibs in the Betfred Cup.
With Hibs leading 1-0 Flo Kamberi netted what looked like a good second until Ross flagged and ref Collum disallowed it for offside. Leith boss Paul Heckingbottom later branded it “one of the worst decisions he’d ever seen”.
Hibs went on to win 2-0 but the manager said it would have been many more if they’d been awarded that second before half-time.
With Red Bull Salzburg and Genk winning it was that chalked-off goal that cost me. Anyway rant over.
Well done to all the winners including Scott with another members bet and while Greg’s favourite leagues are back he didn’t get enjoy on week one.
Saturday sees the final group games of the Betfred Cup and I’ve posted a separate preview and picked out a couple of trebles.
Apart from friendlies there are Belgian league games and the Dutch Supercup between Ajax and PSV as well some Scandinavian games.
Good luck with whatever you decide to go with on Saturday – and check out my early thoughts on the Scottish anteposts with the season starting in six days.
