Only France have a 100% record at the World Cup so far but Brazil have the chance to match them and book their place in the last 16 when they square up with Switzerland this afternoon.
Neymar will miss out through injury but Seleção Canarinho will be out to lay down a market to the rest of the nations in Qatar by making in two from two.
The Swiss eked out a 1-0 victory over Cameroon to get their campaign off to a winning and ease some of the pressure on today’s match. Taking anything from this game will be seen as a bonus with a winnable match against Serbia to follow on Friday.
With that in mind the 4/9 on Brazil to win looks a fair price despite Neymar’s absence. There’s still plenty of quality in that Brazil squad and if they’re near their best should be too strong for the Europeans. The Swiss are decent but lack star quality. That 1-0 win on Thursday was just their second this year in 10 games so we could see Brazil rack up a couple.
A Brazil win coupled with them scoring two or more pays 7/10 so add in a couple of bookings for Switzerland to take it to 23/20. It could be a frustrating day for Xhaka and co.
Portugal’s clash with Uruguay is the other stand-out match in Qatar today. Cristiano Ronaldo’s penalty got the Portuguese off and running in a 3-2 win over Ghana and a spot-kick could be on the cards again here. The striker didn’t need an invitation to go down and we know how tough tackling the Uruguayans can be so a penlty to be awarded at 7/4 could be worth a play.
With 188 goals for his country 37-year-old Ronaldo holds the record for international goals and he’s 7/4 to make it 119 this evening. He can’t be ruled out since he’s on penalty duties and likely to play the majority of the match.
Despite drawing a blank against South Korea, Uruguay still have a potent, if ageing, front line. Both aged 35, between them Luis Suarez and Edinson Cavani have 126 goals for their country whilst Darwin Nunez looked a threat in their opener. It could make for an entertaining encounter.
