Scottish Football expert Mark gives us the lowdown on matches north of the border this weekend.
Falkirk v Cove Rangers
COVE RANGERS can inflict more misery on crisis club Falkirk in a League One clash at evens.
The Bairns parted company with Paul Sheerin last week after a catastrophic 6-0 hammering at Queen’s Park which featured some of the most amateur defending you are ever likely to see in a Scottish professional fixture.
If there was a blueprint about how not to run a football club, Falkirk would be the headline act as they continue to be the most underachieving club in the country.
And there’s unlikely to receive much sympathy from a Cove Rangers side going along nicely under Paul Hartley, who was of course shown the door by Falkirk not so long ago either.
They’ve won three in a row and five of their last six games in all competitions. They crushed Championship side Queen of the South after a replay in midweek in the Scottish Cup in a 3-0 triumph in Dumfries.
Goals haven’t been a problem for them and they must be relishing facing this defence.
St Johnstone v Aberdeen
ABERDEEN have embarked on something of a revival recently with two decent home wins in a row and can edge a St Johnstone side struggling with confidence at 29/20.
Saints’ clash with Ross County was called off last week, but that might not be a bad thing given their recent problems. They have scored just nine league goals all season and look weak all over the park.
Dons boss Stephen Glass isn’t out of the woods yet, but there were plenty of encouraging signs in those last two dominating wins over Livingston and St Mirren – two sides they have struggled against recently.
With Ryan Hedges, Christian Ramirez and Marley Watkins all seemingly on top of their game, Aberdeen should be going into games aiming to outscore any team and should have too much for the Saints in Perth in what is traditionally a fixture of few goals.
Raith Rovers v Kilmarnock
RAITH ROVERS can show they are very much in the hunt for promotion by beating Kilmarnock in Kirkcaldy.
Killie turned in a really poor display at Inverness last week and never got going at all. Just about the last place they would want to try and bounce back is Stark’s Park against a Raith side unbeaten in 14 games with their last defeat coming in the League Cup against Celtic.
Killie appear to be toiling in their attempts for an instant return to the top flight and a Rovers win would see John McGlynn’s side go four points ahead of the Ayrshire men at a nice price of 17/10.
