All of the Premier League’s big guns are out in action on a super Saturday, which sees Chelsea, Manchester City and Liverpool resume their title battle, with the Reds involved in an emotional return to Anfield for former skipper and current Aston Villa manager Steven Gerrard.
Meanwhile, Arsenal will look to get back to winning ways against Southampton and Manchester United’s Ralf Rangnick is looking for a second league success since he was appointed at Old Trafford when the Red Devils head to Norwich.
Ralf to Help United Wreck Norwich
Of all the teams in the Premier League, United are the one with the most potential to improve given how much they were being held back by novice manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer. They now have a more experienced coach in Rangnick at the helm and the talent is in the building to leave their dodgy form way behind them in the second half of the season.
Rock-bottom Norwich are unlikely to be able to put up too much resistance and United should oblige as comfortably as odds of 2/5 suggest.
That looks safe enough for the accumulators, although for a better value bet, consider United to win to zero at 23/20.
Norwich have scored the fewest goals in the league this season with just eight and United immediately looked more comfortable defending counter-attacks in their new 4-2-2-2 formation under Rangnick.
If they get the balance right in midfield, expect Cristiano Ronaldo, Bruno Fernandes and Jadon Sancho to do the damage at the other end.
Wolves Lacking Bite
United’s Manchester rivals, City, can overcome Wolves with the minimum of fuss to maintain top spot in the Premier League. The best bet could be City to win and under 3.5 goals at 20/23.
City’s control of midfield is superb and aided by Pep Guardiola’s desire to play with as many technicians as possible, although that can harm their quest to thrash teams due to a lack of a traditional number nine striker.
However, a comfortable win appears likely against Wolves, who have landed under 2.5 goals in 12 of their 15 league matches and their last four games have produced only two goals.
Gerrard Set for Entertaining Anfield Return
Liverpool legend Gerrard is sure of a warm welcome back to Anfield and his Villa side should play their part in an entertaining clash where the Reds are fancied to win in a match where both teams score at 5/4.
Villa have failed to score only twice in the Premier League this season and carried a threat even when the subsequently sacked Dean Smith was struggling to pick up points.
They may well do so again but Villa’s defence will be seriously tested against a Liverpool team who have scored at least twice in all bar one match in all competitions this season. Mohamed Salah and Sadio Mane are devastating options and even reserve striker Divock Origi has found form in the recent wins over AC Milan and Wolves.
Arsenal, beaten by Everton and United in their last two games, make zero appeal at 5/8 to see off Southampton with Saints or the draw fancied on the double chance at 27/20, despite the Emirates visitors having to use emergency signing Willy Caballero in goal.
Chelsea should see off injury-hit Leeds and the best bet is Adam Forshaw to receive a card at 3/1. The Leeds midfielder has started 11 league matches for Leeds since the start of 2019-20 and he has been booked in five of those.
