Mark is now doing a weekly blog for McBookie and here are his thoughts for this weekend.
He says: “Motherwell suffered a disappointing start to their new campaign but can get back on track against newly-promoted Dundee United at 21-20.
“Stephen Robinson’s side were flat in their defeat at Ross County on Monday night, although a sending off and a penalty miss hardly helped.
“They’re better than that though and will be relishing the prospect of righting that wrong when United visit Fir Park.
“United were far from impressive in their opening-day home draw against 10-man St Johnstone and, although they should be okay for the season, it showed they might take time to find their feet.
“Well inexplicably dropped Allan Campbell from that defeat in Dingwall which came as something of a surprise considering he was arguably their best player last season.
“He should be back this week though and Well should have too much for Micky Mellon’s new boys.”
“Hibs look overpriced for their trip to Livingston’s Tony Macaroni Arena at 19-10.
“The Easter Road side are expected to deliver good things this season and should challenge for the best of the rest race.
“They had too much for Kilmarnock last week and look overpriced for the trip to West Lothian. Livi’s dreaded pitch appeared to have a lot of teams beaten before they arrived last season but you have to wonder how long that particular advantage will help them.
“Player for player Hibs look a better side all over the pitch … even a plastic one.
“Martin Boyle looked like he was back to his best last week and he’s massive for Jack Ross’ side. They are value to make it two out of two.
“St Mirren are 7-5 with a two-goal handicap at Rangers on Sunday and that could be a sensible investment.
“The Paisley side have tightened up at the back with the introduction of keeper Jak Alnwick and seasoned Premiership campaigners Marcus Fraser, Joe Shaughnessy and Richard Tait.
“They didn’t suffer too many hammerings even at the hands of the Old Firm last season and should certainly be competitive on Sunday.
“Rangers should of course win – anything else is unthinkable for Steven Gerrard – but, after that jading Europa League tie in Germany against Bayer Leverkusen, it would be understandable if they are not at their best.
It wouldn’t be a massive surprise if this is closer than the odds suggest and Saints +2 is the call.”
