ICELANDIC League Cup action for me this evening and with plenty to play for, I reckon this one looks a gem of an early price and would expect it to go off at evens or less
VALUR VS. AFTURELDING (6.00pm):
Initial thoughts are always going to be centred around a very strong Valur outfit and I’ve been a massive fan myself over the last 18 months or so, but I reckon the visitors will have a few things to say about this one!
This is both sides final game of the group stages and although neither can catch clear leaders KA, they can still go through in the runners up spot which is currently a three-way tie between Valur, Afturelding and Fjolnir.
It’s an interesting dynamic and means that the mighty Valur will be gunning for this one and so, naturally, we see the strong favouritism from the bookmakers towards the Reykjavik based Urvalsdeild side – but, I’m not convinced Afturelding will roll over and have had plenty to say for themselves lately!
Five goals against Fjolnir and 3 against table-toppers KA in their last 2 group games speaks volumes about their desire to progress and if you consider that Valur themselves only drew 2-2 with Valur after being thumped 4-0 by KA then perhaps, there’s a cautionary tale about the hosts own willingness to progress in what is classed as Iceland’s ‘3rd competition’…food for thought.
Yes, Valur may well go on to win this match but their prices offer little value as do match goals – I sense though that there is great value in taking Afurelding to make a go of it and continue to find the net even against such high calibre opposition.

Best of luck!
