It’s been quite the 12 months for Chelsea. Back in March Roman Abramovic announced he was putting the club up for sale against the backdrop of Russia’s invasion of Ukraine and the Blues looked like they faced an uncertain future. Thomas Tuchel was in hotseat back then but he only lasted until Sepetmber, sacked with the club fifth in the table.
But the new owners of the club have put their money where their mouth is and stole all the headlines in the January transfer window adding Joao Felix, Benoit Badiashile, Mykhailo Mudryk and Enzo Fernandez at a cost of over £300m. It’s now Graham Potter’s job to mould those additions in to a winning team on the pitch starting tonight against Fulham.
Potter’s 43% win rate is the worst since Guus Hiddink’s ill-fated second spell in charge at Stamford Bridge when he was interim boss and you have to go back to Glenn Hoddle’s reign for a worse percentage by a permanent manager. The former Brighton boss will surely get some time to turn things around, but he needs to start delivering soon, £300m hasn’t been spent to finish 10th.
The Pensioners could climb above tonight’s opponents with a win, which would take them in to sixth. After four successive wins Fulham have hit the buffers a little due to two 1-0 defeats to Spurs and Newcastle and don’t have a great record against Chelsea. thier win at Craven Cottage last month halted a run of seven consecutive defeats in this fixture and they’ve won just twice in 37 visits to Stamford Bridge.
It’s time for Chelsea to step-up and with their new faces added to the squad they can start tonight at 3/5. Add in two or more Chelsea goals for an even money BetBuilder.
£89m winger Mykhailo Mudryk has pace to burn and is destined to be a star for Chelsea. He scored 10 in 18 for Shakhtar Donestk this season before his big money move and is 3/1 net on his home debut.
