Friday’s Football Bet of the Day see’s me begin in the Championship where I’m expecting to see goals. Then to Portugal and once more I’m backing Porto to collect all three points.
West Brom vs QPR
🏴 Championship
⏰ Friday 24th September, 20:00
Sky’s live showing on Friday night is at the Hawthorns as West Brom host QPR. The hosts are currently two points behind leaders Bournemouth in 3rd, meanwhile QPR are in 8th and just a point outside the playoffs.
Despite drawing their last three matches, West Brom can temporarily go top with a win against QPR. West Brom have scored 14 goals this season with only three sides scoring more. Eight of those goals have come at home, with only a resilient Derby side keeping them out (the only side to do so in the league). Despite being unbeaten, West Brom have conceded in five of their eight games this season, conceding seven times.
QPR come into this winless in their last three in the Championship but did knock out Everton on pens after a 2-2 draw in the League Cup on Tuesday evening. QPR are the only side in the division to score in all eight League games, scoring 16 goals. That tally is the 2nd highest in the division with only league leaders Bournemouth scoring more. Conceding goals has been an issue for Mark Warbutton’s side, with only three sides conceding more than QPR’s 12. Six of their eight games this season have went over 2.5 goals, including their last three which has seen 12 goals.
Gil Vicente vs Porto
🇵🇹 Liga NOS
⏰ Friday 24th September, 21:15
Porto travel to the Estádio Cidade de Barcelos to take on Gil Vicente. The hosts currently lie in 7th position whereas Porto sit in 2nd position, four points behind old foes Benfica.
After winning their first two games of the season against Boavista and Portimonense, Gil Vicente are winless are now winless in their last four. They drew 1-1 with Belenenses last time out to make it only two points taken from the last 12 available. Gil Vicente only took 16 points in their 17 home games last season, with only four of them coming against top half sides. Gil Vicente lost all three home matches against ‘The Big Three’ last season and have also already lost to 0-2 Benfica this season.
After commendable away draws to last years Champions Sporting Lisbon and to Spanish Champions Atletico in the Champions League, Porto thumped Moreirense 5-0 at the Dragão. Porto are still unbeaten this season collecting 14 points from a possible 18. In fact, going back to last season Porto are unbeaten in their last 34 Liga NOS games, winning 25. Porto won all three meeting with Gil Vicente last year in both league and cup which means they’ve won in 11 of the last 12 meetings between the sides.
Bet of the Day
Whenever QPR are involved goals are usually too and I fancy the same at the Hawthorns. Mark Warbutton’s QPR side cause problems and do score goals but defensively they can end up being far too open and concede too many goals. Even though goals have dried up recently for West Brom, I feel this is a perfect fixture for them to find their shooting boots again and whilst I expect both to score, I’m going for overs instead. Porto need to keep winning to keep pace with Benfica at the top and I expect them to be good enough to defeat a Gil Vicente side that are winless in their last four and who don’t have a good record against the Dragões.
- West Brom vs QPR over 2.5 goals
- Porto to win
- Double Pays 7/5 (Unibet)
