Friday’s Football Bet of the Day sees me focus on the opening fixture of Matchday 24 in Ligue 1, and I fancy the visitors to claim another three points against their lowly hosts.

Lyon will look to continue their recent upturn in form as they travel to the Stade de l’Abbé-Deschamps to take on struggling Auxerre tomorrow evening.
Auxerre failed to go within two points of safety last Sunday afternoon, as they missed a stoppage-time penalty to draw 1-1 with the only side below them in the Ligue 1 table, Angers. Whilst Christophe Pélissier’s side drew 0-0 with Reims the week before, it’s now just one win in 19 (W1-D5-L13) Ligue 1 fixtures for last season’s Ligue 2 playoff winners. Only Ajaccio (18) have scored fewer goals than Auxerre (19), with the Burgundy club also possessing the third-worst defence, conceding 47 goals across their opening 23 Ligue 1 showdowns.
Lyon made it three wins and a draw from their previous four Ligue 1 last Sunday evening, as they defeated fourth-placed Lens 2-1. Laurent Blanc’s visitors’ form on their travels has improved in recent months, as after collecting just a solitary point from their opening five road trips, Les Gones have gone on to win four of their next six (W4-D-L1), with their only defeat in that run coming against second-placed Marseille.
Bet of the Day
Despite a somewhat underwhelming season at this point, Lyon has been known for being flat-track bullies, winning eight of their 10 (W8-D1-L1) Ligue 1 assignments against the bottom seven sides in the table – including all four away from home.
Auxerre, on the other hand, have lost 13 of their 15 (W0-D2-L13) Ligue 1 matches against sides positioned in 13th and above, and I expect them to fall to defeat against a resurgent Lyon side in Burgundy on Friday evening.
