Wednesday’s Football Bet of the Day sees me focus on a crucial match in Group D, and I’m backing Denmark to do just enough to defeat Australia.

Denmark takes on Australia at the Al-Janoub Stadium tomorrow afternoon in full knowledge they must win if they are to reach the knockout stages of the tournament.
Australia have been fast starters in their opening two World Cup matches, taking early leads against both France and Tunisia. Whilst they would go on to lose 4-1 to the reigning World Champions in their group Graham Arnold’s side managed to hold against Tunisia, meaning the Socceroos realistically require just a point to qualify for the knockout stages for just the second time ever.
Many punters, including myself, fancied Denmark to be potential dark horses in this tournament but things haven’t gone to plan so far for Kasper Hjulmand’s side. De Rød-Hvide opened up their World Cup campaign with a disappointing 0-0 draw with Tunisia before a Kylian Mbappé brace saw them fall to a 2-1 defeat to the French on Saturday.

Despite their defeat to France on Saturday, there were certainly signs of improvement for the Danes, and I’m hoping that will give them a slight boost in confidence. Player for player, Denmark is far stronger than the Aussies and whilst they may be tough to break down, I’m expecting the Scandinavians to show that extra bit of quality and secure the win they require.
To increase the price, I’m happy to throw in under five match goals. The Danes conceded just eight goals across their 16 World Cup Qualifiers and Nations League fixtures – registering eight clean sheets – and I don’t see Australia causing this defensively solid Denmark side too many problems in what I expect to be a low-scoring Danish victory.
