Sunday’s Football Bet of the Day see’s me focus on the Italian Serie A. I’ve combined my best two selections to give us a nice double just over even money.
Empoli vs Sassuolo

Two of Serie A’s most entertaining sides go head to head at the Stadio Carlo Catelloni as Empoli host Sassuolo. The visitors come into this in 13th, three points and four places behind their Tuscan opponents.
As I predicted, we were treated to a superbly entertaining match at the Olimpico, as Empoli drew 3-3 with Lazio. Whilst Aurelio Andreazzoli would’ve been disappointed his side couldn’t hold out for all three points, it’s now just one defeat in their seven in Serie A. Empoli have only failed to score three times this season and have scored in 12 of their last 13 matches. However, they’ve only managed three clean sheets this season and have conceded in 14 of their last 15 matches.
Alessio Dionisi would’ve been left disappointed last time out, as his side could only draw 1-1 at home to strugglers Genoa. Whilst the Neroverdi have lost just one of their last eight in Serie A, they’ve won just twice, drawing the other five. Sassuolo have also only failed to score three times this season and have scored in 15 of their last 16. Clean sheets have been a struggle though, keeping just two all season, with them conceding in each of their last 14 matches.
Inter vs Lazio

Simone Inzaghi comes up against his old side, as Inter host Lazio at San Siro. The reigning champions are currently a point clear of city rivals Milan at the top, whilst Lazio are in 8th, behind both Roma and Fiorentina on goal difference.
Inter’s trip to Bologna on Thursday was postponed due to a Covid outbreak in the Bologna squad, meaning their four point cushion at the top of Serie A was cut to one following Milan’s 3-1 win over Roma. Inter were in scintillating form prior to the winter break, winning each of their last seven, scoring an impressive 20 goals. Inter are the leading scorer’s in Serie A, finding the back of the net 49 times in their opening 19 matches, with the Nerazzurri scoring 2+ in 16 of those matches.
Lazio failed to make it three wins on the bounce last time out at home to Empoli, once more highlighting their inconsistency this season. In the end, Maurizio Sarri would’ve been relieved to earn a point given they were 2-3 down going into stoppage time at the end of the game. Only the bottom four sides have conceded more goals in Serie A than Lazio, with the Biancocelesti already conceding 37 goals. Lazio are yet to keep a clean sheet on the road this season, conceding on multiple occasions in six of those 10 matches.
Bet of the Day
Both Empoli and Sassuolo are usually involved in high scoring, entertaining matches and I’m expecting another one here in Tuscany on Sunday afternoon. Both sides have only failed to net in three of their 20 matches this season and given they’ve kept just five clean sheets between them, it’s likely we’ll see both sides find the back of the net here and that should lead us to over 2.5 goals. Simone Inzaghi comes up against his former side, but they’ll be no room for sentiment given there’s a good chance his side will be 2nd come kick off. The Nerazzurri come into this winning each of their last seven, scoring 20 goals and I’m backing them to score at least twice against a Lazio side who’s tally of 37 goals conceded is only worsened by each of the bottom four sides. Maurizio Sarri’s side are yet to keep a clean sheet away from the Olimpico this season and with Inter scoring 2+ in 16 of their 19 matches, I’m happy to back them to score at least twice here.
