Manchester City should take a further step towards the Premier League title with yet another victory on Tuesday when they host Wolves, while top-four hopefuls Leicester and Manchester United are among the sides in action on Wednesday.
City’s sensational run of consecutive victories in all competitions continued on Saturday when they edged out West Ham at the Etihad 2-1 to make it 20 straight wins. The result was closer than Pep Guardiola would have liked but there is an air of inevitability about the outcome whenever his side take to the field at the moment.
The Hammers were good value for the 1-1 half-time scoreline and came as close as anyone has done in recent months to stopping the champions-elect.
City to Maintain Stunning Form
Wolves will hope to pose a similar threat on Tuesday but anything other than another home victory looks remote. City are the 1/5 favourites to win, while Wolves to cause a big shock is 15/1 and the draw is 6/1.
Wolves have had a disappointing campaign so far and sit down in 12th place, 11 points off the top four and, equally, 11 clear of the relegation zone. Raul Jimenez’s serious head injury has certainly affected them this term but they remain good enough to be thinking more about closing the gap on the top six rather than slipping further down the standings.
When trying to find a value bet for the game, City to win by a two-goal margin appeals at 49/20. They were 3-1 winners at Molineux back in September and seven of their 19 victories so far this term have been by two goals.
On Wednesday, two sides hoping to respond to defeats over the weekend meet at Turf Moor when Burnley host Leicester City. The Foxes let a 1-0 lead slip when going down 3-1 at home to Arsenal, while the Clarets were on the wrong end of a 4-0 scoreline at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.
Foxes Fear Another Collapse
Brendan Rodgers’ side have looked like a top-four team for much of the season but, like 12 months ago, may be fearing a collapse during the run-in as those behind them in the table hope to finish stronger.
Harvey Barnes has been one of their outstanding performers but he suffered a knee injury against the Gunners and is set to be out for at least six weeks and, with injuries also keeping other key men James Maddison, Jonny Evans and James Justin out, they suddenly look vulnerable.
Burnley have had an inconsistent campaign to date and are without a win at home in their last five games but Wednesday could be the night to put that record straight. Sean Dyche’s side need the points as they are only five clear of the bottom three and they can add to Leicester’s problems by coming out on top, an outcome that’s on offer at 29/10.
Eagles Trip Shouldn’t Worry United
A trip to Selhurst Park shouldn’t hold too many fears for a Manchester United side who are unbeaten away from home in the league since January 2020. The Red Devils played out a dull 0-0 draw at Chelsea on Sunday but they should have too much firepower for an Eagles outfit who are down in 13th place and have failed to score in three of their last four games.
Roy Hodgson will be hoping Wilfried Zaha will be fit to return against his former club but a sixth home defeat of the season still looks on the cards. United are 10/23 to pick up a valuable three points in their bid to finish comfortably in the Champions League places.
More Blades Misery at Hands of Villa
Finally, Aston Villa go to rock-bottom Sheffield United in midweek and Dean Smith’s side, who are unbeaten in three on the road, look good value at 23/20 to inflict yet another defeat on the hapless Blades, who have lost their last four games and are staring relegation square in the face.
