Bayern Munich can win the Bundesliga title with two games to spare this weekend but there is still plenty to play for elsewhere in the division.
The Bavarians will secure a ninth straight German top-flight title if they beat Borussia Monchengladbach or Leipzig lose to Borussia Dortmund or both sides draw and it has long been a case of ‘when’ not ‘if’ they will secure the silverware.
But as the Bundesliga reaches its climax, there are still a number of sides who could join Schalke in the relegation positions. while the top-four tussle between Wolfsburg, Eintracht Frankfurt and Borussia Dortmund looks like going right to the wire.
Wolfsburg Can Rediscover Superb Home Form
Wolfsburg have made the Volkswagen Arena into a fortress in the Bundesliga this season – last month’s losses to Bayern Munich and Borussia Dortmund were their only home league defeats in 2020-21 – and they can beat Union Berlin there this weekend.
Oliver Glasner’s men are well on course for a Champions League berth this term, sitting third ahead of the next round of fixtures, and they have enjoyed nine wins from their 15 home league games this campaign.
They drew 2-2 with Union Berlin earlier in the season but played the last 40 minutes of that contest with only ten men after Max Arnold was sent off and they should go one better this time around.
Back them at 10/13
to prevail against the capital club, who are now unlikely to make the European positions and could lack incentive.
Borussia Dortmund Set for European Boost
Since the pressure to perform has eased, Borussia Dortmund have gone up a level in the Bundesliga and they can win a huge clash with Leipzig this weekend.
The sides are set to meet in the German Cup final only five days after Saturday’s league meeting and Edin Terzic’s men, who are fresh from a 5-0 thrashing of Holstein Kiel, can win the first meeting.
Dortmund are on a run of five wins from their last six games in all competitions with their only defeat in that run coming against Manchester City in the Champions League and they gave a good account of themselves in that tie.
Motivation could also play a key role in this clash. Dortmund simply have to win if they are to keep their Champions League hopes alive whereas Leipzig have all but secured a top-four spot and will be more focused on the final.
The Red Bulls have struggled recently even before Julian Nagelsmann announced he will be leaving the club for Bayern at the end of the season, having managed only three victories in their last six games across all competitions. Dortmund look a great bet here at 11/10
.
Give Cologne a Sniff Against Freiburg
Cologne are in desperate need of points as they continue their fight against the drop and they can take all three in Sunday’s game against Freiburg, who could be a touch fatigued after losing to Hertha Berlin on Thursday.
The Billy Goats have beaten Leipzig and Augsburg recently and have looked sharper in the final third with at least two goals in each of their last three fixtures. Freiburg have little left to play for and are worth opposing so take Cologne at 21/20
