The Grade Two Towton Novices’ Chase is the highlight on Saturday’s seven-race card from Wetherby.
Former Grade One winning hurdler Ahoy Senor is looking to enhance his reputation over fences ahead of the Brown Advisory Novices’ Chase.
Racing at Wetherby is from 12.50pm-4.10pm on Saturday and you can watch it all via live streaming when logged into MansionBet – alongside all the action from the UK and Ireland. Our tipster has previewed Saturday’s Wetherby card.
12.50 – William Hill Best Odds Guaranteed Novices’ Hurdle (2m3½f)
Dan Skelton’s novice hurdler OUR JET was an empathic winner at this course last month, prevailing by just over nine lengths to break his maiden over hurdles. That victory came on his first start since having wind surgery. The Lodge Hill runner can build upon on that win over this longer trip.
Selection: Our Jet @ 1/2
1.22 – William Hill Home Of The Acca Handicap Chase (2m3½f)
In what was his second start of the season, BARTON KNOLL was back to his best as he scored by a narrow margin at Doncaster (2m3f). John Mackie’s runner has gone up just 2lb for his win. He will also be receiving weight from all three of his rivals here, which gives him a great chance of successfully following up.
Selection: Barton Knoll @ 7/2
1.58 – Wilmot-Smith Memorial Mares’ Novices’ Hurdle (2m)
MISS LAMB is set for her first appearance over hurdles in this novice contest. Her bumper form was excellent, so her connections will be excited about the campaign ahead. She finished last season hitting the frame in a Grade Two contest at Aintree. The six-year-old does need to prove herself over obstacles, but she should be able to take care of this field on her hurdles debut.
Selection: Miss Lamb @ 4/6
2.30 – William Hill Towton Novices’ Chase (Grade 2 – 3m)
There are just four runners for the feature race on the card and AHOY SENOR is the stand-out runner in this field. He has appeared at the highest level over hurdles and fences. Lucinda Russell’s talented runner had to settle for second place in the Kauto Star Novices’ Chase at Kempton last time. This assignment is much easier. Expect to see him dominate from start to finish.
Selection: Ahoy Senor @ 5/6
3.00 – William Hill Pick Your Places Handicap Hurdle (2m3½f)
It has been an excellent season for FOSTER’SISLAND so far. He completed a hat-trick of wins at Ayr (2m4½f) back in December. Connections opted to take their chance in the Lanzarote last time out. Unfortunately, he came home down the field. The seven-year-old is back in calmer waters now and may still be off a workable handicap mark.
Selection: Foster’sisland @ 6/1
3.38 – Stratstone Harrogate Open Hunters’ Chase (3m)
LAW OF GOLD has won on his last two appearances in hunters’ chases. He has had a long break since his last success in May at Stratford (3m3½f). David Kemp’s gelding is likely to be fresh for this assignment and he can get the better of his bigger challenger Dubai Quest.
Selection: Law Of Gold @ 13/8
4.10 – Stratstone Harrogate Open National Hunt Flat Race (2m)
Nicky Henderson gives RATHMACKNEE his debut under Rules in this bumper. He was involved in a dead-heat for first place in a point-to-point on his last start. The Seven Barrows runner looks to have a lot of potential and is the one they all have to beat in the final race on the card.
Selection: Rathmacknee @ 6/4
