Arsenal had the misfortune of being the opponents in Sean Dyche’s first match in charge of Everton but tonight they should exact some revenge against the Toffees.
Everton handed the Gunners their second league defeat of the season as Goodison Park rallied around the new manager and inspired a 1-0 win but it should be a different story tonight at the Emirates.
Man City have failed to capitalise on Arsenal’s dropped points and Mikel Arteta can open up a five point gap with a win over the Merseysiders in their game in hand.
History suggests that the three points will stay in north London, after all, Everton have won just one of their last 26 top flight visits to Arsenal and they’re on a current run of just one win 13 away Premier League matches.
At Anfield its a fourth clash of the year already between Liverpool and Wolves. It’s been honours even so far with a win apiece and a draw to date.
It’s really difficult to trust Liverpool at the moment, especially at 9/20 tonight. Just when they look like they’ve got their act together they turn in another disappointing performance. Their 0-0 draw at Selhurst Park on Saturday night was their fouth time in five outings they’ve failed to score.
Wolves aren’t too dissimilar. Under Julen Lopetegui they’ve shown signs of promise but goals have been a problem with just 18 scored in 24 games, the joint-second lowest in the league.
Despite that the bookies make it 11/10 for Under 2.5 goals, perhaops swayed by the fact two of the last three meetings have seen Over 2.5 Goals.
In the FA Cup the quartet of favourites look pretty solid bets to progress, a four-fold that paysover 5/1.
Fresh from the League Cup success Man Utd will be aiming to keep their treble (possibly quadruple?) hopes alive. West Ham are the visitors to Old Trafford but David Moyes’ has a few selection issues.
The Red Devils will be in bouyant mood and it’s unlikely that Erik ten Hag will take this one lightly so expect the home side to get the job done.
Scott Brown has made a good start to his managerial career at Fleetwood and pits his wits against Vincent Kompany tonight. Burnley look a Premier League side in all but name now, with a 21 point cushion ahead of third place in the Championship, so it couldn’t be much tougher for the Fishermen.
Likewise, Grimsby face a big ask to topple Southampton at St Mary’s. The League Two side are the lowest ranked club remaining in the competition. They pulled off one of the results of the previous round, eliminating Luton Town, but they’ve subsequently slipped to 16th position in the fourth tier and the gulf should be too big to bridge.
Spurs look the most vulnerable of the big names tonight. Sheffield United boast the second best home record in the Championship and look most likely to come up alongside Burnley at the end of the season so this could be a tricky one for them at Bramall Lane this evening.
Stand-in boss Cristian Stellini, has hinted at some changes to the Spurs line-up; “We will pick the right team – we can win also by making some changes“. Spurs can be inconsistent at the best of times so perhaps best avoided. In which case the Cup treble of Man United, Burnley and Southampton looks more appealing at 5/2 than the four-fold.
