It’s D-Day in the Premier League tonight as the top two meet at the Emirates in a clash that will go a long way to determining the destination of the 2022-23 title.
Arsenal have held on to top spot in the run up to tonight’s match but a 1-1 draw with Brentford allowed Manchester City to close the gap to three points at the weekend and a win for the Citizens tonight would see them leapfrogging the Gunners at the summit, albeit having played a game more.
If you listen to the pundits you’d think there’s an inevitability about Pep Guardiola’s men overtaking Arsenal and not looking back, but Mikel Arteta will having something to say about that and it should be a belter in North London tonight.
However the Gunners confidence will have taken a knock after picking up just one point from their last two matches, and eight from the last 15 available. In that spell they also lost to City in the cup and won’t be looking to their recent record in this fixture for inspiration – they’ve lost 10 consecutive Premier League games against tonight’s opponents.
Manchester City have hardly been flawless themselves since the turn of the year either, defeats to Southampton, Manchester United and Tottenham have highlighted their own vulnerabilities.
The bookies are siding with the visitors in this one, making Guardiola’s men favourites at 11/8 versus the 15/8 on Arsenal to win.
Erling Haaland could be a doubt for City after he only managed the first half against Aston Villa. The 25-goal striker has failed to score in his last three games but is 6/5 to end his mini-drought tonight. Kevin de Bruyne is another man due a goal, he’s not found in the net in last 13 appearances for the club. The Belgian is 15/4 to score.
Having lost their momentum Arsenal could be there for the taking tonight. They don’t have the experience that most of the Manchester City squad can call upon when it comes to this kind of title battle and will need to dig deep to pull out a result tonight. But that recent record against City is a major concern, with Arteta never having wont his fixture. Pep seems to have his number so from a betting perspective the away win looks the best shout.
It’s not very often the Champions League plays second fiddle but most neutrals will be paying just a passing interest on Chelsea‘s visit to Borussia Dortmund tonight.
The Blues could be in for a tough night against the Germans who have been flying since the turn of the year. It’s six wins from six for Edin Terzić’s men and they look handily priced at 29/20 to take a first leg lead over Graham Potter’s men.
The former Brighton boss is still struggling to find the right formula despite some expensive arrivals at Stamford Bridge. In a tie where they might be happy with a narrow loss they look worth opposing at those odds.
