Republic of Ireland vs Ukraine – Both Teams to Score
Two sides who suffered disappointing defeats last time out meet in Dublin, as the Republic of Ireland play host to Ukraine at the Aviva Stadium.
Stephen Kenny’s side began their Nations League campaign with a 1-0 defeat to Armenia, whilst the Ukrainians saw their World Cup dreams come to an end, as they lost 1-0 to Wales on Sunday.
Prior to drawing a rare blank in Cardiff, Oleksandr Petrakov’s side had scored in all eight of their World Cup qualifiers, as well as putting three past Scotland at Hampden in their playoff semi-final.
However, Ukraine’s only clean sheet in World Cup qualifying came against Kazakhstan and given The Boys in Green scored in 6/8 of their World Cup qualifiers and their need for a positive result, I’m happy to take a chance on both to score in Dublin.
Scotland to Score 2+
Scotland must bounce back from more World Cup disappointment, as they kick-off their Nations League campaign at home to Armenia at Hampden Park on Wednesday night.
Steve Clarke’s side were beaten 1-3 at home to Ukraine in their World Cup semi-final playoff last week, whilst the Armenians secured an impressive 1-0 win over the Republic of Ireland in Yerevan.
Joaquín Caparrós’s side were beaten 9-0 away to Norway in a friendly prior to that victory over the Irish and conceded 20 goals in their World Cup qualification campaign.
Scotland won four and drew one of their five World Cup qualifiers at home, scoring 12 times and there’s every chance they’ll score a brace against this leaky Armenian defence.
Netherlands to Score 2+
After qualifying for their first World Cup since 1958, Wales must turn their attention back to the Nations League, as they host the Netherlands at the Cardiff City Stadium.
Rob Page’s side defeated Ukraine 1-0 thanks to a deflected Gareth Bale free-kick to secure their place at this years World Cup, whilst the Dutch also secured an impressive victory, thumping Belgium 1-4 in Brussels last Friday.
As well as scoring four away to Belgium, Louis van Gaal’s visitors scored 33 goals in World Cup qualifying, scoring on multiple occasions in 8/10 of their qualifiers.
Wales have only conceded 10 goals in their 10 World Cup qualifiers and playoffs but given Rob Page is likely to play a weekend side, I’m happy to take a chance on the free-scoring Dutch to bag another brace
