IT was pure box office stuff at the Etihad Stadium between Man City and Real Madrid last week and punters will be hoping for more of the same tonight when the teams meet again.
City will be disappointed to be going to the Bernabeu with just a one goal advantage after leading by two on three occasions before it ended 4-3. As for Madrid they look as if they never know when they’re beaten and of course with Karim Benzema in their ranks they can score goals in a heartbeat.
The bookies reckon it’s still advantage Manchester City, rating them short 2/9 favourites to join Liverpool in the final compared to 31/10 (SBK) for Real. And it’s a surprise to see Carlo Ancelotti’s men as big as 21/10 to win on the night.
Let’s not forget they’ve just been crowned La Liga champions once more and have lifted this famous old trophy more times than any other club. They’ve also turned around two first leg deficits in this season’s competition already after losing to PSG and Chelsea so perhaps deserve a bit more respect, especially at home.
That’s not to say Man City aren’t capable of winning in Spain tonight but for all their brilliance going forward last week they managed just one more shot on target than their opponents. Of course for Pep Guardiola this is the prize that has eluded him since his arrival in Manchester and a draw does City so they’re not worth backing at just over evens to win.
In the Draw No Bet market Madrid are 5/4 and that could be a good way to get them onside if you fancy them to push City this evening.
In the goals markets the bookies are rightly running scared and have Over 2.5 Goals at just 1/2. One more goal is 6/5 whilst a repeat of last week where Over 6.5 landed will tempt a few at 12/1. BTTS is 4/9 which isn’t that bad a price, following last week’s 4-3 thriller.
Man of the moment, Benzema, is 11/10 to find the net again and if Madrid are to progress he’s the man most likely to get on the scoresheet.
