AFTER how Tuesday’s Champions League matches went only a fool would try to predict how tonight’s games will play out. So here goes….
Let’s start with Liverpool, their’s looks like the most clear cut path to the semi-finals following a 3-1 win in Lisbon last midweek against Benfica.
Big games are coming thick and fast for Jurgen Klopp’s side. This match for example is sandwiched between two crucial clashes with Manchester City, the first of which resulted in a 2-2 draw on Sunday. The pair meet again in the FA Cup semi-final at the weekend before Liverpool play their great rivals Manchester United next midweek.
With that in mind Klopp might see this game as the one to rotate his squad so team news will be crucial if you’re having a bet, especially on any of the player markets. That said, the Reds should get the job done and Klopp might go with a strong starting XI, wrap things up, then rest a few legs.
An early goal could be on the cards although Bet365 have the line set at just 22:00mins at 5/6. Alternatively the Asian Goal Line for first half goals is 2.100 for Over 1.5.
With Liverpool firmly in the driving seat in this tie and now facing Villarreal if they progress to the semi-final they’ve been shortened to 11/8
Things are a lot less predictable in tonight’s other tie where Man City take a slender lead to Atletico Madrid. It was one-way traffic at the Etihad last week as Atleti failed to register a single shot against City but they resisted attack after attack and Kevin DeBruyne’s goal was all that separated the sides.
It was a typical Diego Simeone performance but they’ll need to come out of their shell tonight if they’re to progress. That could open the door for City to take advantage and there’s no way Pep Guardiola will sit in to defend their one-goal advantage.
City should again see the lion’s share of possession in a game that a draw does them they’re not backable at 8/11 to win in Madrid.
It could be a cagey opening and in contrast to the match at Anfield no goal before 31:00 appeals at 5/6 as does a half-time draw at 6/5.
