Bodo/Glimt thumped Linfield 8-0 to book their place in tonight’s qualifier against Zalgiris and they appear to be getting close to the kind of form that’s seen them rule in Norway and impress in Europe for the last few seasons.
The sides met at the play-off stage of the Europa Conference League last season and of course it was the Norwegians that came out on top. They looked to have secured a first leg lead before being pegged back in the 94th minute but they got the job done at home where a 1-0 win saw them progress 3-2 on aggregate.
That was a tighter match than when they met for a one-off Europe League qualifier the year before. It was a rout in the Arctic Circle as Glimt ran out 6-1 winners.
The way the bookies have priced this one up they think it could be a comfortable night for the Eliteserien champs. Kjetil Knutsen’s are 1/3 to win but Zalgiris proved themselves to be no mugs themselves, knocking out Swedish Champions Malmo in the previous round. Not much appeals in tonight’s other qualifers but both Qarabag and Ferencvaros have been involved in high-scoring games so far in the competition so it might be worth opposing the bookies at 23/20 on there being over 2.5 goals.
There’s a raft of EFL Cup games tonight and tomorrow. It was difficult enough trying to predict the opening weekend of the season in the Football League so good luck if you’re getting involved in those.
