Rangers’ preparation for tonight’s crucial Champions League play-off could’ve gone a whole lot better.
Two points dropped at Easter Road as they finished the game with 9-men made for a tough shift in Edinburgh, all the while PSV rested up from Eredivisie duties.
The decision to leave Alfredo Morelos in Glasgow has grabbed all the headlines in the build-up but the Gers fared well without their star striker in Europe last season and Giovanni van Bronckhorst will be pinning his hopes on summer signing Antonio Colac to step up to the plate when needed most.
He was on the scoresheet in last week’s 2-2 draw, a result which leaves the tie finely balanced, and he’s 12/5 to net this evening.
But Rangers have won just one of their last 12 away from home in Europe (LDLLLWDDLDLD), however that win was an eye-catching 4-2 victory at Borussia Dortmund, a result that Van Bronckhorst will no doubt use to provide inspiration for tonight.
Allan McGregor was Rangers saviour on more than a few occasions en route to last season’s Europa League final but John McLaughlin has been preferred to the veteran ‘keeper so far this season. Gone too is Calvin Bassey from the defence and without both of them the Gers backline looks less assured.
The Dutchmen have scored 19 in their opening five fixtures this season but they too can be vlunerable at the back, they’ve conceded in each of the five, 11 goals in total. Rangers have scored 13 in their last five fixtures. They did draw blank last in Belgium in the previous round but they’ll need to be more adventurous tonight.
That suggests we could be in for another both teams to score match, which is priced at 4/6. BTTS & Over 2.5 is 11/10 and that looks like a bet worth taking.
Dinamo Zagreb v Bodo/Glimt is finely poised this evening following a narrow 1-0 for the Norwegians last week. The Eliteserien champions peppered the Croatians’ goal last week but could only muster a single goal so they’ve still got a lot of work to do tonight. The bookies still rate them favourites to qualify at 8/13.
They’re more than capable of scoring in Zagreb and that would take them a huge step towards the group stages. Combining a Glimt goal with them to qualify pays 10/11.
