RB Leipzig didn’t hang about after they lost to 4-1 to Shakhtar Donetsk on matchday one. Out went Domenico Tedesco to be replaced by former Dortmund and RB Salzburg manager Marco Rose and things are looking more promising.
A good 4-0 win over Bochum, with the enigmatic Timo Werner bagging a brace, suggests better things to come and the bookies have them as 11/20 favourites to claim their first win in Group F with Celtic at 17/4.
Celtic’s biggest concern will be the missing centre-back pairing of Carter-Vickers and Starfelt, the bedrock of last season’s domestic success. That coupled with Celtic’s poor defensive record on the road in Europe and it’s easy to see why the bookies have lost some of the faith they’ve had in the Scottish Champions earlier in the tournament.
Celtic always look vulnerable at the back in Europe and it usually pays to back their opposition to score at least once. On this occasion the Germans look like they could pose a dangerous threat going forward, but then again so do Celtic with the likes of Furuhashi, Giakoumakis and Jota all available.
Goals looks the way to go so back Both Teams to Score and add two or more RBL goals for a 6/5 BetBuilder.
Regardless of what happens at the Red Bull Arena, Celtic will be keeping an eye out for the result at the Bernabeu. By a quirk of results so far, as long as Real Madrid win their next three games in the group the Hoops only need to win their two home fixtures (RB Leipzig and Shakhtar) to qualify for the last 16.
Madrid should enjoy a comfortable night against the Ukrainians who probably peaked on matchday one.
The last thing any team wants to do at the moment is take a trip to the Etihad. Man City went through the gears against Man United on Sunday and scored their 35th goal of the season (10 games) in their 6-3 win.
Poor FC Copenhagen are in the firing line tonight and could be on the end of a mauling. The Danes are struggling domestically in 6th place and shouldn’t be able to cope with City’s firepower.
The phenomenon that is Erling Haaland looks unstoppable and it’s hard to recall any player be as short as 2/7 to score at this level. Another hat-trick for the Norwegian is just 7/2.
💰 BOOKIE BONUSES: Over £500 in bonuses available for tonight’s Champions League matches
Little else appeals in the Champions League tonight. Sevilla and Dortmund look like two teams out form so it’s hard to pick a winner there. We’ve yet to see Chelsea hit top form under Graham Potter and AC Milan will provide a tough challenge at Stamford Bridge. The Italians could be a bit of value at 4/1 or on the Double Chance market at 11/10.
