The La Liga title race may have been decided on Thursday evening but there is still plenty to play for heading into Sunday’s final day.
Real Madrid wrapped up their 34th league crown with a 2-1 win over Villarreal with the fifth-placed Yellow Submarine having already sealed Europa League football for next term courtesy of their superior head-to-head over Getafe.
However, Los Azulones, Real Sociedad, Valencia and Granada are all fighting it out for the final two continental spots, while if everything goes their way, there is even still a chance that Osasuna can qualify.
Los Che Come Out to Play
Valencia have had another, somewhat characteristically, eventful season, but Thursday’s 1-0 win over Espanyol has left them a point shy of European football.
They head to Andalusia for their final game to face a Sevilla side already having Champions League football in the bag and returning from a long trip north to Sociedad on Thursday.
Los Rojiblancos looked lethargic in their 0-0 draw at the Anoeta and could be there for the taking.
Valencia won this fixture 1-0 last term thanks to a Dani Parejo penalty and with that in mind, it is tough to ignore the 3/1* on offer for another away win.
Sociedad to Miss Out?
A win at the Ramon Sanchez Pizjuan would take Valencia onto 56 points one more than Sociedad’s current tally and with Getafe having a winnable game at Levante, the Basques may struggle.
Imanol Alguacil’s men have the toughest task of the lot, with a trip to an incessant Atletico Madrid to ponder.
Los Colchoneros have more than achieved their original post-lockdown goal of qualifying for the Champions League and need a win to be sure of third and continue their momentum looking ahead to next month’s Champions League.
The Txuri-urdinak have not won away against Los Colchoneros since 2013 and at 16/5 are the outsiders on Sunday.
That opinion is given more credence considering Atleti have conceded once in their last four games and a home win to zero may well be the answer at 7/4.
Can Leganes Cause a Shock?
Last but not least and with Mallorca and Espanyol already gone, it is down to Celta Vigo and Leganes to decide who follows them into Segunda.
Celta are a point ahead and have a better goal difference which could come into play with the pair tied on head-to-head. However, their goal difference is superior.
The Galicians head east to Cataluna and at 20/29 maybe viewed as a gimme against hapless Espanyol but that cannot distract Leganes who are involved in a more local affair.
Champions Real are the visitors to the Butarque but Liverpool’s drop in form in England has suggested they too may have lost concentration by the time Sunday rolls around.
Los Pepineros have only beaten Real once in their history. However, with them needing a win and the newly-champions potentially having their minds elsewhere, 17/10 looks a very good price for the home side.
