Traditionally the hardest test in golf, The US Open will return to that test this week at Winged Foot.
TipperDan debuts on the site with his best bets for what looks like one of the toughest Major assignments in recent years in New York this week…
In recent years the USGA has used graduated rough which has meant players are penalised more the further off line they go. They have now returned to a uniform length of rough which will result in the winning score being over par for sure.
Miss the fairway and a bogey is almost guaranteed. That coupled with the greens running at 13 on the stimpmeter will make it a brutal test for the world’s best players at Winged Foot.
Dustin Johnson
The best player in the world right now is Dustin Johnson and at 15/2 with Skybet he isn’t going to make you rich with a victory, however going by recent form he will be hard to beat.
His record in the US Open is difficult to argue with; a win, a second, a third, and a fourth and his game is ready-made for a tilt at a second major here at Winged Foot.
Collin Morikawa
Recent PGA champion Collin Morikawa showed nerves of steel down the stretch in that victory and is an alternative at a more friendly 14/1 to follow-up his stunning success at Harding Park last month.
His putter will need to be red-hot again this week and if he can make it majors from two we could have a new superstar on our hands.
Tyrell Hatton
Tyrell Hatton has a successful first season on the PGA Tour season culminating in his victory in the Arnold Palmer Invitational.
His ball striking should see him have another good week and is well priced at 33/1. The hardest thing for him this week may be keeping his temper under control in the most trying of examinations.
He’s been a consistently good finish at major tournaments with five top-10 finishes and could give us another run for our money this week.
Chez Reavie
With accuracy at a premium, the ‘bomb and gouge’ approach won’t reap the benefits it does on a normal PGA Tour week. That may provide an opportunity for shorter hitters to have a chance and Chez Reavie fits that description. At 125/1 the Wichita-born 38-year-old is a huge price to reward an each way bet.
Recommended Bets
- Dustin Johnson 15/2
- Collin Morikawa 14/1
- Tyrell Hatton 33/1
- Chez Reavie 125/1
