Manchester United can take control of their Champions League fate on Monday when they welcome Southampton to Old Trafford.
United fans will have enjoyed watching the Premier League action unfold over the weekend as top-four rivals Chelsea and Leicester both fell to defeats.
The Blues lost 3-0 at Sheffield United on Saturday before the Foxes were thumped 4-1 at relegation-threatened Bournemouth on Sunday.
Those losses have put United, who could climb up to third with a win on Monday, in a fantastic position to qualify for next season’s Champions League.
Red Devils to Keep Rolling on
United were in fine form prior to the enforced break, enjoying an 11-game unbeaten run across all competitions, and they have continued to build momentum since returning to action in June.
They have extended that unbeaten streak to 17 after winning five and drawing one to boost their chances of earning a Champions League berth.
Southampton’s form ahead of Monday’s outing can’t be disregarded, picking up seven points from the last nine available, and they tend to perform better on the road.
Indeed, the Saints have the fifth best away record in the league this term, however, United, who are priced at 2/7
* to win on Monday, should have too much for them.
Goals Expected at Old Trafford
Scoring goals has been an integral part of United’s success during the second half of the Premier League campaign.
The Red Devils boast the fifth best scoring record in the division and have torn apart the likes of Aston Villa, Bournemouth, Brighton and Sheffield United since the restart.
They have scored at least three goals in each of their last four league outings, which is a Premier League record, with Anthony Martial, Marcus Rashford and Mason Greenwood all getting in on the act.
Southampton have encountered problems defensively, shipping 56 goals, and United will be looking to take advantage of their frailty at the back.
Recent meetings between these two have provided plenty to get excited about in terms of goals with two of the last three seeing over 3.5 goals scored.
Backing over 3.5 goals in Monday’s meeting at 13/10
looks like the way to go.
Greenwood to Add to Tally
Greenwood has started four of United’s five league outings since the return of football last month, scoring four times.
The 18-year-old looks to have cemented his place in Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s plans for 2020-21 and appears to have a bright future in the game.
His tally in the league this season stands at nine but he has netted a further eight goals across all competitions.
The academy graduate tends to perform better on home soil with six of his nine goals coming at Old Trafford and he can be backed at 7/5
to score anytime against Southampton.
