Aberdeen? Check. Rangers? Check. Willie Collum? Check.
When these three collide there’s usually fireworks so we should have plenty of drama and incident at Pittodrie tonight where it’s 3rd versus 2nd in the Scottish Premiership.
There’s no love lost between the two clubs, throw in to the mix the criticism Jim Goodwin’s side received for their ultra-defensive perfomance against Celtic on Saturday, and add in some dissatisfaction at Rangers’ first performance under Michael Beale and we should be in for a cracker between two sides who’ll want to make their mark in this one.
Aberdeen’s home form has been great this season, all the more baffling as to why they set-up so defensively in their 1-0 loss to the champions the weekend. Goodwin can’t run the risk of failing to lay a glove on the opposition again tonight. It’s 19/4 that they put a major dent in Rangers’ title aspirations by taking all three points.
As for the visitors, they’ll feel there’s room for improvement following last week’s 3-2 win over Hibernian in which a section of the support booed the team off the pitch at half-time. They simply cannot afford a slip up and are 4/7 to take all three points back to Glasgow.
The Dons have scored 22 goals at home, the same as both Celtic and Rangers so they know where the back of the net is. The Gers defence looked very shaky in that first 45 last week so Goodwin will feel his side will be capable of a goal or two tonight. That should help us towards the BTTS landing at 4/5. Add in Over 2.5 goals in the match at 6/5.
But the X-Factor tonight could be referee Willie Collum who’ll want a bit of the limelight for himself. Things got so bad between Collum and Rangers that the Ibrox club once asked that he didn’t referee any more of their matches. But he’s back on the roster and last time he officiated a Rangers match he sent-off two Light Blues at Hibs.
On the last three occasions he’s refereed this particular fixture he has sent a player off. Most likely to see red is firebrand Alfredo Morelos (33/1) who has been given his marching orders three times against the Dons.
The natural expectation is that we could see quite a few cards tonight but the bookies have set the line at Over 4.5 for just 4/5 and that doens’t look much value so it might be worth having a go a BetBuilder with a few of the prime suspects including Lundstrum, Jack, Ramadani and McCrorie.
