A point will be enough for England to secure their place at Euro 2024 tonight and it speaks volumes for the market’s confidence in the Three Lions that they’re just 8/13 to defeat one of Europe’s traditional powerhouses.
Gareth Southgate’s men look likely to cruise through yet another qualification with much of the hard work already done. A 2-1 win in Naples set the tone on Matchday 1 and the only points dropped came in a below par performance against Ukraine in Wroclaw.
Italy of course are European Champions, winning the 2020 tournament at Wembley against England but failure to make it to last year’s World Cup – their second absence in a row – was a body blow to a nation so used to international success.
Defeat for the Azzurri could see them slip out of the qualification places, replaced by Ukraine, who should beat Malta. The two nations meet in November in what could be a winner-takes-all clash in Leverkusen.
Another missed tournament is unthinkable for the Italians but they’re lacking the star quality of previous generations and England can take advantage once more.
There’s plenty of firepower at Southgate’s disposal, 10 different players have scored in England’s last five games so two or more English goals appeals at 20/21.
Jude Bellingham looks destined for super-stardom after a blistering start to his Real Madrid career. He’s scored 10 in 10 in Spain and is 11/4 to continue his fine goalscoring form and net his first for England on home soil.
The Tartan Army celebrated Euro 2024 qualification in Lille last night ahead of their friendly clash with World Cup winners France this evening.
Scotland have fallen short against England and Spain in their last two outings and it could be another tough night for Steve Clarke’s men against the World Cup runners-up.
It’ll be another good test for the Scots as Clarke begins to plan ahead for an assault on Germany next summer but anything other than a French win would be a major surprise. A win to nil for Didier Deschamps men looks likely at 10/11.
