IT’S been a good week for Manchester City so far and it could get even better if they can put one foot in the Champions League semi-finals tonight.
Standing in their way are six-time champions of Europe, Bayern Munich, now managed by former Chelsea boss Thomas Tuchel.
The German has already tasted success against Pep Guardiola in the competition when he guided Chelsea to a 1-0 win in the 2021 final against City.
Tuchel replaced Julian Nagelsmann just a matter of weeks ago following a run of just five wins in 10 games for the Bundesliga champions and concerns by the club’s heirarchy over player development. It’s not been plain sailing for Bayern since Tuchel’s appointment, success over Dortmund in his first game in charge saw them re-take top spot but was followed by a shock cup defeat to SC Freiburg which was quickly avenged with a 1-0 league win to keep them top of the table.
City are still challenging on three fronts and are now favourites to win all three pieces of silverware which would make for a remarkable Treble. The Champions League trophy remains the elusive holy grail and they’re just 1/2 to qualify fromt his tie which would set up a clash with either Real Madrid or Chelsea in the semis.
With Erling Haaland on board this term might never have a better chance. The striking phenomenom has scored five goals in seven matches against Bayern during his time in Germany but his Dortmund side lost each one of those seven. He’s a measly 8/11 to net this evening. Double that with a City win for a 13/10 BetBuilder.
In the night’s other tie Benfica are 11/10 to take a first leg lead over Inter Milan in Portugal. The Eagles topped a group that included PSG and Juventus before thumping Club Brugge 7-1 on aggregate so won’t fear a visit from the Italians who are languishing in fifth in Serie A and are winless in six including a 0-0 draw at Porto in the last round.
Dundee have a huge chance to take a major step towards the Championship title if they can win at home against Raith Rovers tonight. The Dark Blues edged their way to the top of the table with a 0-0 draw at Arbroath. Tonight is their game in hand over Queen’s Park and a win takes them three points clear of the Spiders. A Dundee win while scoring two or more pays 4/5.
In League Two Stirling Albion can all but secure promotion with a win at second place Dumbarton who’s season has collapsed. The Sons are winless in five (D1 L4), blowing their lead at the top of the table. Meanwhile Stirling have powered their way to the top and it would be a fitting way to cement their promotion with a win at their nearest rivals at 21/20.
