Mikel Arteta’s Gunners show no sign of letting up at the top of the Premier League but they’ll face one of their toughest tests of the season tonight when Newcastle make their way to The Emirates.
Plenty of pundits and fans alike expected Arsenal’s title challenge to have faltered by now but they just keep delivering the goods and can open up a 10-point lead over Manchester City with a win tonight.
Their 4-2 win at Brighton was their 14th this season, just six shy of their 22 the whole of last season. Their home form has been the bedrock of an incredible season so far; seven games, seven wins but this evening’s match will be just their second against a team in the top four (at the time of playing them) – the other a 3-1 win over Spurs. The next six weeks could make or break their season with fixtures against Spurs (a), Man Utd (h) and Man City (a) coming up in the next six weeks.
Newcastle drew blank against Leeds at the weekend to frustrate Eddie Howe but it’s now 12 games without defeat for the Magpies who are establishing themselves as genuine top four contenders this season.
A win in North London tonight would be a real statement but that goalless draw at St James’ Park on Saturday will have dented their confidence a little.
Newcastle boast the best defensive record in the division having conceded just 11 goals, Arsenal are just behind them on 14 so it could be a close one tonight. Arsenal look a little skinny at 8/11 so better value loks to be there to be no goal before 28 minutes as both sides attempt to ease themselves in to the game.
At Old Trafford, Man Utd can keep their good run of form going against Bournemouth. The Red Devils may not be pretty but they’re proving effective and can move within one point of rivals Man city with a win.
They’ve conceded just four goals at home, where they’ve kept three consecutive clean sheets and are even money to win to nil against a Bournemouth side who have lost six of their last seven league outings and are heading in the wrong direction.
