The confirmation of Mauricio Pochettino’s appointment as next Chelsea Manager leaves Spurs as the only Premier League club without a permanent manager.
The North Londoners appear to have had more knockbacks than Joseph and his donkey which has left Brendan Rodgers at the head of the betting to be manager by the time the new season kicks-off.
The former Celtic boss tops the betting at 7/4 (was 5/4 yesterday), followed by the current Celtic boss, Ange Postecoglou at 11/5 (was 7/2). The Aussie is about to complete his second season in the East End of Glasgow and on course to deliver the club’s eighth domestic Treble.
Despite being ruled out of contention, former Bayern Munich coach Julien Nagelsmen is third in the betting at 8/1 with caretaker coach Ryan Mason at 14s.
Other names in the frame are Luis Enrique (16/1), Graham Potter (16/1) and Sporting Lisbon’s 38-year-old gaffer Rúben Amorim (16/1)
Or will Spurs tempt a manager away from their current role at a Premier League club? Marco Silva (25/1), Thomas Frank (25/1), Julien Lopetegui (25/1), Roberto De Zerbi (33/1), Vincent Company (50/1) and former Arsenal manager Unai Emery (66/1) are all listed among the betting.
After an 8th placed finish and failure to qualify for Europe, Spurs are 40/1 shots to win next year’s title. The aforementioned Chelsea are 12/1.
It’s no surprise to see Manchester City at 4/6 to make it four-in-a-row and after an admirable campaign Bet365 make Arsenal their most likely challengers at 7s.
Liverpool and Manchester United are 8/1 to stop the City juggernaut and 4th placed Newcastle could be lively outsiders at 14/1 if the Magpies’ owners get the chequebook out over the summer.
No promoted teams got relegated this season but it’s the three clubs coming up from the Championship that lead the betting to go straight back down.
Luton (4/11) and Sheffield United (4/7) are odds-on with Burnley at 5/4.
Conversely, the three teams relegated from the top flight are all shortest price to make an immediate return as winners of the Championship; Leicester City (6/1), Leeds Utd (7/1) and Southampton (8/1).
There’s a very long summer ahead and no doubt some managerial changes to come. The transfer window doesn’t officially open until the middle of June but there could be some nice value to be had at this early stage.
