Four games in and it’s Arsenal that lead the way in the Premier League but tonight there could be an unfamiliar name at the summit as Brighton aim for the top spot with a win over Fulham.
The Seagulls have made a tremendous start to the season with three wins and a draw so far and are currently on a nine-game unbeaten run in the top flight, the longest in their history.
Opponents Fulham will be happy enough with their return to the Premier League after taking five points from their opening four matches which included games against Liverpool and Arsenal.
Graham Potter has his side well organised and have only conceded once this season, an own goal at that, but one man who’s enjoyed success against Brighton is Aleksandar Mitrovic, who has scored three goals in his two Premier League starts against them.
The Serbian striker has had the most attempts at goal this season (19) and has found the net four times already, following on from his incredible tally of 43 in the Championship last season. He’s 7/4 to notch again tonight and if Fulham are to get on the scoresheet he’s obviously most likely.
Chelsea got a much-needed win at the weekend against struggling Leicester City. The Blues went down to 10-men midway through the first half but still had enough in their locker to eke out a 2-1 victory which lifted them into the top six.
It’s been a less than impressive start from Thomas Tuchel’s side and they’re likely to be active in the transfer market before the window closes but the German will be desperate to build on Saturday’s win with another three points at St Mary’s this evening.
It’s difficult to know what to make of Southampton at the moment. Plenty had tipped them to struggle this season but they’ve taken four points from their first four games, which have included defeats to Spurs and Man Utd.
Chelsea are a bit on the short side at 4/7 based on current form. They hit the Saints for six on their last visit to the south coast and although it won’t be as straightforward tonight backing them to be winning at half-time and full-time pays a healthy 6/4.
Crystal Palace have arguably had the toughest start to the season, squaring up to Man City, Liverpool and Arsenal in their first four outings. They gave a good account of themselves at the Etihad on Saturday before City’s quality eventually prevailed. There’s no shame in their defeat to Arsenal and they’ll have been pleased with a point against Liverpool.
That all bodes well for Palace who could welcome Wifried Zaha back from injury this evening to add to their firepower which has seen them score six in their last three Premier League outings.
Visitors Brentford have had a mixed start to the season. A stunning 4-0 win over Man Utd was followed by a 3-2 defeat to newly promoted Fulham, then a late draw with Everton.
Palace could just shade this and despite the fact the last two meetings have been goalless they could notch a couple of goals at 6/5.
