There’s nothing much to get involved in on Thursday so it gives us the chance to look ahead to the weekend.
We’re approaching the home stretch in the Premiership and there’s a pivotal match at the Etihad Stadium at lunchtime on Saturday where Liverpool make the trip to Manchester aiming to put a dent in City’s title hopes. The Reds lost on their last visit, which was their first defeat in this fixture in the last five. Pep Guardiola’s side have scored 13 goals in their last two games whilst Liverpool go in to it off the back of two defeats. Jurgen Klopp’s men should probably be bigger than the 4/1 on offer.
Arsenal will be keeping a close eye on that one before their 3pm kick-off against Leeds Utd. The Gunners have a trips to Anfield and the Etihad coming up in the next few weeks before ending the month with a London derby against Chelsea so can’t contemplate any dropped points on Saturday.
Roy Hodgson will be in the dugout once more for Crystal Palace this weekend where Leicester City are the visitors. The Eagles might be 12th in the table but they’re just four points off the bottom. It’s 6/4 that the latest Hodgson era starts with a win.
In the Championship Middlesbrough will be on the shortlist at struggling Huddersfield, as will Coventry City who are unbeaten in nine. They’re at home to Stoke who have been in decent form themselves but are worth a second look at 11/8.
Blackburn are the form team in Championship and having been knocked out of the FA Cup by Sheffield United they can now concentrate on trying to catch them up for second place. Rovers make the tip to Birmingham, who don’t have a great home record, and Jon Dahl Tomasson’s side appeal at 9/5.
In Scotland, Rangers will be aiming to close the gap to six points on leaders Celtic who don’t play until Sunday. The Gers host bottom side Dundee Utd.
Hearts need to get things back on track at Kilmarnock. The Jambos have lost their way lately and are danger of relinquishing third spot. Robbie Neilson’s men will be popular at 13/10 though.
No-one looks like they want to win the Scottish Championship. Queen’s Park suffered a surprise defeat to Arbroath last time out which has opened the door for Dundee yet again. The Spiders face the trickier match on Saturday, an away trip to Raith Rovers while Dundee entertain last week’s Challenge Cup winners Hamilton.
In League Two, Dumbarton blew their chance to reclaim top spot last night and Stirling Albion look in a strong position to open up a gap. They look decent value to extend their unbeaten run with another win at Elgin at 5/6.
Let us know who’s on your shortlist for the weekend.
