Manchester United’s resurgence under Erik ten Hag can take another major step forward tonight if they can navigate their way past Barcelona at Old Trafford.
It’s been another good week for United, wins over Leeds Utd and Leicester City helped them close the gap on Manchester City in second place in the Premier League and a 2-2 draw at the Nou Camp puts them in a good position to reach the quarter finals of the Europa League.
That result was all the more impressive considering Barca lead La Liga, eight points ahead of Real Madrid, who stunned Liverpool on Tuesday night.
The bookies make United just 8/13 to qualify with the visitors 6/5 at Bet365. Barca toiled at Bayern Munich and Inter in their Champions League group, similarly last season they were defeated on the road in Munich and at Benfica, so home advantage could be key tonight.
Red-hot Marcus Rashford came up trumps for us Sunday with his 23rd and 24th goals of the season. If United are to prevail tonight then you’d expect him to be on the scoresheet at 13/10. At the other end Robert Lewandowski will be Barcelona’s key man and he’s also 13/10 to find the back of the net.
Elsewhere in the Europa League PSV Eindhoven face an uphill task to overturn a 3-0 deficit against tournament experts Sevilla. As they chase the game they could find themselves exposed which could lead to a few goals at the Philips Stadion. Over 2.5 Goals pays 10/11.
Jose Mourinho’s Roma side need to win in the Stadio Olimpico following a 1-0 defeat to RB Salzburg. The Special One has been linked with moves away from the Italian capital with PSG, Inter, Real Madrid and Chelsea all being mentioned as his next destination.
The Austrians were well beaten in Italy back in November when they needed a win at the San Siro to finish above Milan in Champions League Group E but were thrashed 4-0.
Roma, who sit 4th in Serie A, level on points with Milan, are 4/6 to turn things around this evening.
Little stands out in the Europa Conference matches tonight. Six of the first leg games finished 1-0, with another ending up goalless so there’s plenty of ties on a knife-edge tonight.
The only side that look home and hosed already are Fiorentina who defeated Braga 4-0 last week and 8/11 on them winning again looks a fair price.
Sheriff have a job to do in Belgrade after a 1-0 loss at home last week. It wasn’t that long ago they were strutting their stuff in the Champions League and turning Real Madrid over in the Bernabeu. The Moldovans might have been caught cold last week having had no competitive football for a significant period but could be better for the 90 minutes under their belt and worth a second look at 7/2.
