The chase is on for Liverpool and Chelsea tonight as the fixtures come thick and fast this month.
Both Jurgen Klopp and Thomas Tuchel have bemoaned the volume of fixtures in December and might have looked at tonight’s fixtures as an opportunity to give some players a breather, but after Man City extended their lead at the top of the table on Tuesday there is no margin for error.
Chelsea haven’t been their usual reliable selves of late, winning just one of their last five and uncharacteristically shipping 13 goals in the process. But they face a somewhat toothless Everton tonight who be without Dominic Calvert-Lewin and Richarlison. That gives the Blues the chance of a clean sheet and backing them to win to nil pays 4/5 at Bet365.
Penalty taker Jorginho is Chelsea’s joint top scorer but is eighth in the betting to open the scoring at 13/2. He’s 2/1 to net anytime and after scoring two from the spot on Saturday could be worth a punt.
At Anfield Liverpool, at 1/8, are as short a price as any team this season and justifiably so. Opponents Newcastle look miles off it this term and for all their new riches will be lucky to avoid a relegation dog fight.
The Reds have been irresistable at times this season and in the six games against the other teams currently in the bottom seven they’ve scored 21 goals, averaging 3.5 per game. The Magpies could be on the end of a hiding tonight but the bookies are giving nothing away with Liverpool priced at 8/15 to score three or more.
It should be a case of ‘how many’ for Liverpool and in terms of goalscorers it’s hard to look past 21-goal Mo Salah but he’s just 4/11 to score anytime. Instead Diogo Jota, who’s grabbed nine this season could be a better value option at 4/1 to break the deadlock and 4/5 to find the net.
It’s anyone’s guess if the Leicester City v spurs match will go ahead, nevermind who’ll win it, so it’s best left alone.
