Graham Alexander bought himself some time with a top-six finish for Motherwell last season and things got even better for the under-pressure gaffer when he guided his side to a European spot despite just three wins in their last 18 league matches.
But the heat is on once more after a 1-0 home defeat to Sligo Rovers, only their fifth win ever in Europe, in last Thursday’s Europa Conference League qualifier and by his own admission tonight’s tie at The Showgrounds is “do or die”.
The visitors might be better after another week’s training under their belt but Sligo are well into their Irish league season and that shaprness was evident last week. Only a win will do for ‘Well and they’re even money to get the result they need but it would take a brave man to back them to turn things around.
NS Mura could be worth a punt tonight at 10/11. Nine months ago they stunned Spurs with a 94th minute winner in Slovenia which all but knocked Harry Kane and co out of the Europa Conference League at the group stages. They host Dubliners, St Patrick’s tonight and the tie is all square at 1-1.
The visitors lie 4th in the Irish top flight and have won four of 11 on the road, but all four have come against the bottom four teams in the league so they’ll need to produce their best away performance of the season to progress but Mura should be better for their European exploits last season and that experience can help them to victory tonight.
Early first half goals paid dividends for us last night as Bodo/Glimt raced in to a 4-0 half-time lead and it could be a similar story for Slavia Prague tonight. The Czechs lead Gibraltar’s St Joseph’s 4-0 from the first leg and should rack up a few more tonight. Over 1.5 first half goals pays 8/13.
Double that with Over 1.5 Goals at Newtown v Spartak Trnava. The Welsh side trail 4-1 from the first leg and there could be more goals tonight as they chase the game to try to stay in the tie.
