IT’S been a miserable week for Scottish teams in Europe again and things could be about to get worse in Turkey this afternoon.
Hearts might have picked up six points against Latvians, RFS in Group A of the Europa Conference League but they’ve been outclassed by the big guns of the group, Fiorentina and Istanbul Basaksehir. Both of whom are tied on 10 points in the race for top spot which wiuld see them avoid a play-off round tie against a Champions League drop out and jump straight to the last 16.
That makes the Jambos clash in Istanbul more than worth winning for the hosts. Much like their Premiership counterparts, Robbie Neilson’s side have shipped more than a few goals when up against higher calibre opposition, losing 3-0, 4-0 and 5-1 in the group already.
It could be another busy 90 minutes for Craig Gordon inbetween the sticks today. Basaksehir are 2/7 favourites to previal, which they should but it’s the 11/10 on them scoring three or more which catches the eye. They’ve done so in both home matches so far and lest we forget that Hearts were 4-0 down in Florence at half-time a couple of weeks ago.
Molde let us down last time out when they surrendered a two-goal cushion to lose 3-2 to Djurgardens. That defeat cost them the chance to top Group F but they can still finish in 2nd place. They’re two points ahead of tonight’s opponents Gent who have won just three of their last 10 in all competitions.
The new Norwegian champions only need a draw in Belgium but are a very tempting price at 13/5 to leave with all three points. If you want to play it a bit safer they can be backed at 13/8 in the Draw No Bet Market or 7/4 to score two or more.
In the Europa it’s winner-takes-all in Rome where Ludogorets are the visitors. Both they and Jose Mourinho’s side are tied on seven points. Despite Roma‘s superior goal difference it’s the Bulgarians who sit in pole position for 2nd place by virtue of their 2-1 win over the Italians earlier in the campaign.
That means only a win will do for Roma at 3/10. In the half-time / full-time market the Roma / Roma outcome pays a much more inviting 10/11.
