Well here it is folks, the first major on the golfing calendar never disappoints as we look forward to an exciting few days of golf with the 86th edition of The Masters at Augusta National Golf Club, Augusta, Georgia.
Masters 2022 Overview
The 2022 Masters field will include the five-time champion at Augusta, the one & only Tiger Woods who makes an incredible comeback after a lengthy layoff after a near-fatal car accident. Could Tiger adorn the Green Jacket once again?
If Tigers’ dreams come true it would be the most amazing return, not just in the golfing world but also in the sporting world. He’s currently 60/1 with Bet365, to do just that. At the time of writing, Tiger is yet to confirm & commit 100% but has been practising at Augusta for the second day now.
The field of 91 will all be competing around this stunning Augusta National layout for a share of the $11,500,000 prize purse. The winner collecting not just the title and the permanent Master’s Trophy but also, a cool $2.070,000 winner’s cheque, a gold medal and probably the one thing that every golfer dreams about, being fitted out then presented with the world-famous Green Jacket.
This Augusta National course is a test for all and always produces thrills and spills every April. It’s what makes this tournament so exciting and an event that golfing and sporting fanatics alike look forward to every year.
The course will be playing 7,510 yards long, it’s a par 72 with four par fives, four par threes with the remaining ten holes par fours. It’s a parkland track that requires precision and accuracy, especially at the ever eventful Amen Corner where many a Masters has been lost and won.
Hideki Matsuyama, Japan’s only major-winning champion will return to defend his title after seeing off Wil Zalatoris by one shot after leading by four going into the final round in 2021.
The weather is forecast to be sunny and warm on day one, Thursday, cooler and cloudier on Friday and Saturday then sunny and warm again on Sunday. With no rain forecast or any threatening breezes to contend with, peaking at 12mph then we could see a double-digit under scorecard.
The Masters will be screened on Sky Sports Golf & Sky Sports Main Event with live coverage starting at 2pm on Thursday afternoon.

So, let’s move on with the selections for The Masters 2022 at Augusta National.
Masters 2022 Betting Preview
For my first and main selection this week, can I leave out Scottie Scheffler? The simple answer to that is no, I can’t!
Scottie Scheffler
Scottie Scheffler is on fire at the moment and it could be a case of ‘catch me if you can’. For everyone who follows my selections, you’ll know just how much I ranted and raved about this talented 25 year old from Ridgewood, New Jersey. I said he would win his maiden PGA Title soon and he did just that when I selected him to win the Phoenix Open back in February. I also said he would keep on winning after that monkey was off his back and again, that’s exactly what this magician has done.
I also tipped Scheffler to win the WGC Dell Technologies Matchplay last time out and once again, he didn’t disappoint. That’s now his third title in as many months with the other victory inbetween being the Arnold Palmer Invitational. This form has seen Scottie Scheffler rise to be the new World Number One so my advice is to ignore Scheffler at your peril.
How fitting would it be to see this talented kid adorning the Green Jacket on Sunday evening in Georgia? With three titles already in the bag this year, the next one could well be a major and it could happen as soon as this weekend.
Scheffler does have experience playing in majors where his best performances so far include T4th at the USPGA Championship in 2020, T7th at the US Open in 2021 and T8th at the USPGA Championship, again last year in 2021. Scheffler also has the advantage of the experienced two time Masters winning caddie Ted Scott carrying the bag, this could prove pivotal. This cool, calm and collected humble giant is a role model within the game of golf at such a young age and it can only mean one thing, win after win after win in the days, months, and years ahead.
How long can he hold on to that World Number One position? How long is a piece of string if you ask me.
Scottie Scheffler’s dreams can all come true this weekend with yet another inspirational performance, this time on his way to being crowned The Masters champion 2022 at the stunning and iconic Augusta National.

Rory McIlroy
For my next suggestion, I’m going to advise Rory McIlroy 20/1 EW Bet365.
Is the missed cut at last week’s Valero Texas Open enough to put me off the 32 year old Irishman, again the answer is no it’s not.
Rory, as you all know is one of my favourites so maybe I’m allowing my heart to rule my head on this one but I’m more than willing to stick by the career grand slam seeking McIlroy. It would be a dream come true for Rory to achieve that ever-elusive career grand slam at Augusta this week and I’m sure it would be a popular victory for the whole sporting world.
If we forget about the missed cut last weekend, Rory’s recent form is remarkable with eleven Top 20 finishes in his previous thirteen attempts.
It actually reads much better considering one of those was a victory when winning The CJ Cup. Five of those finishes were Top 10s while four were of them in the Top 5 so Rory’s certainly not rusty and will come to Augusta knowing he can win if he brings his A-game. Rory has been putting in the hard work recently, tweaking this and tweaking that and it all seems to be coming together again just in time for Augusta and St Andrews.
I couldn’t think of a better script this week for us all to be watching Rory McIlroy being fitted and presented with the Green Jacket, well Robert MacIntyre would definitely be another, I for sure will be shouting on both Rory and Bob to win this year’s Masters.

Justin Thomas
For my next pick, I’m going to single out, now I’d love to include the above mentioned homegrown talent, our very own Bob MacIntyre, but sorry Bob, I’m only allowed three picks and for that reason and that reason only I’m going to include Justin Thomas 14/1 EW SportNation.
The 28 year old from Louisville, Kentucky hasn’t won since winning The Players Championship at Sawgrass in 2021 but he does arrive here at Augusta with the stats that matter. JT currently ranks 3rd on the PGA Tour for SG tee to green and 5th in SG approach play.
Now the latter is the stat that stick out here as Augusta is where approach play and scrambling are key to any success around this testing track. The stats actually read better when it comes to par four performance, (ten in total at Augusta) JT is 1st on the Tour for par fours and 3rd when it comes to par five. Again with an experienced caddie on the bag, in the safe hands of Jim ( Bones ) Mackay along with the skill, precision and expertise that JT brings, this could be the winning team.
With those stats in the bag, you’d expect some fine recent form and this certainly applies to JT. It actually reads truly remarkable, with six Top 5 finishes in his last thirteen attempts, ten of those are Top 20s, JT is usually always lurking around at the top of leaderboards.
It’s why he’s the seventh-ranked best player on the planet. I just have a feeling that this course is all set up for the 2017 USPGA Championship winner to go on and bag that more than deserved second major Conditions will more than suit. JT can use his excellent pinpoint accuracy iron play and short game to conquer this demanding Augusta National golf course as he becomes The Masters champion, wearing a nice Green Blazer on Sunday evening.
Louis Oosthuizen v Bryson De Chambeau
For our customary 72 holes Match bet Nap this week at The Masters I’m going to yet again advise that Bryson De Chambeau is still nowhere near 100% yet and Augusta is not what Bryson needs at the moment.
